Resmed Escape II Auto: Does it provide much data?

Post by sleepy1235 » Sun Aug 03, 2014 8:50 pm

Does the Resmed Escape II Auto have much data on its chip?

A friend of mind just got it after months of waiting.

I am doing some research and it doesn't seems to record more than compliance data.

Can someone provide a document on this?

thanks

P.S. I am updating him as to the poor quality of sleep medicine.

You are correct...The Escape is the low end of the ResMed line. The chip provides compliance data only.

Is it an S9 Escape Auto, or an S8 Escape Auto? What does it say next to the power button, and which of these machines does it look like?

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machines/resmed.php

It's a very poor machine compared to the fully data capable machines like the S9 AutoSet. It records on/off times, and (I think) nightly AHI and Leak averages.

you'll have to go find your own document if you don't take our word for it.

the escape auto is crap, it's got the old apap algorythm in it, so it doesn't know the difference in obstructive and central apneas, it won't pursue obstructives past 10cm, it stores no useful data. ...

there's something else they cheaped out on, iirc, but i don't remember what it is, offhand.

it's slightly less crap than the escape. but not much.

I took a photo of it and it just says "Resmed Escape II Auto" I will have to ask the owner to check his manual.

Hi michelle679,

Welcome to the forum.

Type in cpaptalk.com in your browser and when the home page comes up, click on the link for new topic and ask away. Unfortunately, features for updating equipment profile are not working right now but if you use the link in my signature, that wlll enable you to update everything when all features are functional again.

Thanks everyone. With the information I was able to confirm what I had found on the internet.

Jeff 241 the picture of the CPAP in your post is the machine my friend has.

Since the CPAP doesn't have data recording there would be no way to know if there was leaks.

So I advised my friend to stick to the face mask. I had driven to his city with my spare new nasal pillow set and he did like it, but if he talks in his sleep or if there is a leak for some other reason there would be no way to tell. His sleep study results were astoundingly bad and he can't have any leaks.

Additionally being an auto CPAP the pressures would be changing and at higher pressures there might be leaks not present at lower pressures. I am sure it gets up there.

Did he get this as a supposedly new machine from a DME, or buy it used? If this is what he was given by a DME, definitely have him take it back and ask for one which is current technology. If this is what he was able to afford used, it might do him well to keep searching for a good deal on a newer data capable machine. I sure hope he didn't pay much if anything if he bought this used. Wow. Surprised they even still list it on the Resmed website considering how long the S9 has been out. Best wishes.
