Hot diggity, self-service therapy is working

Post by Tatooed Lady » Fri Aug 01, 2014 7:09 pm

Since following my results, adjusting the pressures and settings on my APAP, I'm very content with my numbers. My HIGHEST AHI in the past month was 4.68. Most nights have been at or under 2. 97% compliant in past 30 days, 83% overall...and we're shooting to get me in for my DOT physical/compliance check next week. From what I understand, they're looking for a minimum of 2 weeks compliance. I would have to say I'm NOT worried.

Awesome! How long have you been self-servicing your therapy? If it is not long, just remember to not be too alarmed if your AHI goes haywire for a few days - it does happen, and takes a bit of figuring out how to get it back under control.

Great work! Let us know what your med examiner says, I'm guessing something like 'you should be a poster child for CPAP therapy compliance'.

Since following my results, adjusting the pressures and settings on my APAP, I'm very content with my numbers. My HIGHEST AHI in the past month was 4.68. Most nights have been at or under 2. 97% compliant in past 30 days
Same here.
Self Service is working perfectly but that came with help from RobySue
The last 18 or so days I have been fully compliant after 2 months of wearing a mask only about 2 hours at night at most.
Unfortunately in my case, unlike others, my Doc ended up prescribing the exact pressure number correctly but he refused to give me a good machine and i could only get the S9 Brick
Had I been able to read my data, I would have bothered to look at the SD card but didn't see the need to do so just to see how many hours it had been used, and I would have noticed that my pressure number had been set far too low, mistakenly by the DME.

That combined with very bad advice at another Sleep Forum, not this one, caused me to doubt the FF mask I was prescribed and told to use a nasal one and for two months i thought i had my mouth breathing under control but was dealing with an AHI of 58 or so.
It was only when i bought an S9 Auto and RobySue figured it all out and told me what to do, that very first night it dropped to about an AHI of 2.5
But for the 2 months previous, it was hell and i am stubborn and knew id stay with it for that reason only but i can see how many would have given up.

So although I would say that most people on these forums are great at advice, it only takes 1 or 2 with critically bad advice and with all the negativity shown DMEs and doctors, i doubted anything they had told me. But in the end they were right. Except for setting the number incorrectly.
Perhaps a better bedside manner might have inspired more trust in them.

Good for you for if i recall correctly, you got it sussed out, your CPAPing pretty quickly and well.
Sure makes a huge difference when it works well!
