S9 Accuracy

Post by dkhinz » Sun Jul 13, 2014 8:40 am

I have been using my S9 for 6.5 months now and this forum has been more help to me than both my sleep doctor and my DME. I use the Sleepyhead software to check my progress and I also have a helpful tech who works for my sleep doctor.

However, I am wondering about how my S9 records hypopneas. When I use Sleepyhead to view my events and single out a hypopnea, I don't see any noticeable difference in my Flow Rate or Mask Pressure. I am wondering if I am missing something. I am attaching a link to a capture of my best night ever. I have a single event highlighted and am wondering if I am looking at this right. Could someone help me to understand what I am looking at.

Thanks for all your help.

it's a little hard to see unless you look closely, but your breaths in the period leading up to the apnea are more shallow, your mask pressure is also a bit lower, and if you check your tidal volume in there, you'll probably see a dip.

poof, hypopnea.

Thanks for your reply. You're right, I brought the Tidal Volume graph up under my mask pressure and there is a slight dip. The same for the rest of the events as well. I guess it doesn't take much to qualify as a hypopnea.

I'm still trying to fine tune everything so I can get as close to 0 AHI as possible. In the meantime, I feel tremendous. I'm much calmer and I notice my breathing is much more relaxed and consistent all day long.

Congratulations on feeling tremendous.

It is important realize that the data you posted showed a total of 6 events recorded all night long. And it looks as though you probably slept for 7.5-8 hours. So your AHI is already less than 1.0. In other words, there's not much to fine tune in your therapy if this night is a typical night for you. And it may not be worth jumping through a lot more hoops to reduce an AHI of about 0.8 to an AHI = 0.1 or 0.2.
