Upgrade to S9 with heated hose

Post by epark300 » Wed Jul 09, 2014 8:04 am

Good morning.
I recently upgraded to a Resmed S9 autopap. Sleep is going well with the exception of waking up in the middle of the night with plugged sinuses. Dr gave me rx for flonase but that doesn't seem to help. When I got new machine the tech set the heat at 80 degrees. Wanted to see if adjusting this would help me with sinus issue. If I sit up for about 5 minutes my sinuses open up and I am fine until I lay back down. I use very little water which concerns me that I am not getting enough humidity.

Thank you

When using the ClimateLine hose in automatic mode you only get temperature as a selection that you can alter and the S9 with the Climateline doesn't alter the humidity delivered if only changing the temperature. It's designed to try to maintain 80% humidity delivery no matter what the temperature.

You can set the humidity controls to manual and have both a humidity setting (1 through 6) and temperature (60 through 86) available independently if you wish.
How to get to the clinical menu setup area and the humidity choices available is explained here
http://www.apneuvereniging.nl/forum/pdf ... manual.pdf

Water consumption will vary a lot depending on ambient room humidity. If where you live has relatively high humidity there won't be much water used. If it is already close to 80% humidity where you live (or maybe has been raining a lot) the machine won't use much water.

You might find that a lower temperature helps with the congestion issues so don't be afraid to try it since lowering the temp won't change the 80% humidity delivery.
You might also simply need less than 80% humidity....nasal congestion due to humidity settings is highly individualized because some people need a LOT of extra moisture and some people find that the extra moisture actually causes the congestion so we tell people to play with the humidity settings to see which way their nasal mucosa want to go.

Thank you. I will try lowering the temp down a little and see if I get improvement.
