Mask Assembly and Positioning

Post by KCDC » Fri Jul 04, 2014 9:49 am

Hey guys, especially Pugsy and Nick Danger. Thank you so much for pointing out things to me. Last night, i slept for 9 hours and AHI was only 0.9. Who would have thunked, me shoving the whole nasal pillow up my nose and the mask was all assembled upside down. LOL.

Again, thank you. We live and learn.

BTW, is this normal, that no one has contacted me, not my dr. or the sleep therapist or anyone, since I received my machine?

Normal depends on your DME supplier. Some will "hound you to death", some will call to sincerely check up on you, and others will ignore you unless you call them.

Welcome to the world of DME's!

Tom

My DME said they would call the first week, but didn't...they waited a month, and even then it was just automated messages that got cut off. I figured out it was to order supplies and check that I was using my machine. I was able to order supplies (mask cushions) over the phone, but had to call them again to get their calls to stop. I thought it was funny that the gist of their checking up was to just make sure I was using the machine lol, which was likely more for insurance reasons. I don't even really have a specific tech to call since I got my setup at a location that was out of my way, then went to another one for a mask fitting since they had more stock (and better techs I figured out), but would prefer to actually go to a third location.

I had a follow up with my doctor scheduled for a month after I got the CPAP prescription, but due to issues every step of the way, I had only been on CPAP a week when I had the follow up.

If you need help from your DME or doctor, you are likely going to need to reach out yourself. I have an awesome sleep doctor, but only so much can be accomplished in a short appointment. This forum is a much better resource. If you don't already have a follow up with your doctor scheduled, I'd do so. Best wishes.

In order for the DME to get paid, there will have to be a follow-up with the doctor after the first month, so you will be hearing from them.

Used to be they would hound people as often as monthly to order new supplies, but they are really not supposed to do that anymore (only replace supplies as needed, not on a regular basis).

Otherwise, don't expect much, they don't care about you, only about your (insurer's) money.
