I've been on CPAP for about a week now. I have the REMstar Auto A-Flex with ResMed full face mask. Starts off good but it wakes me up in the middle of the night blasting air, at least that's what it feels like. It wakes me up because it's so much air it bothers my mask and it leaks at that point. I try to readjust to my face but it doesn't work so I end up taking it off and put it back on later when I wake up again. My settings on my CPAP is 6 - 16. When I wake up I've looked at the little window and it's like a 14. Do I need a different mask? Whatever you can tell me great.
Thanks

Re: Newbie with question about air flow
Welcome to the forum. There are many very knowledgeable people here who will help you. I just want to contribute by saying you've come to the right place
It sounds like you're making a really good start to your therapy - you have mastered getting to sleep with the mask on your face! So well done!
Have you had a sleep study yet? If so, what were the results?

mask liners (search for 'em) help a lot of people with leak issues. I discovered them a few years back and haven't spent a night without one since. they turn the squeaking farting blowing leaks into a gentle draft that's much less likely to wake me up.
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

Re: Newbie with question about air flow
If you start out the night at 6 cm pressure and end up needing higher pressure ....at which pressure are you doing your mask fitting? You may need to fit your mask to higher pressures because what works good at 6 cm probably doesn't work so good at 14 cm.
Get the software for your machine and see just how much time you spend up at 14 cm...
Sometimes pressure changes like that simply wake a person up and you may need to have the pressure range adjusted so that there isn't such a big difference in pressures.
Software information in my signature line.
New version of SleepyHead for both Windows and Macs is discussed in a new thread on the main page of this forum..just look for it to get the latest software.
You may need a different mask...or you may just need a mask liner or you may need a pressure adjustment or you may need all of these things. Get the software and post the detailed data

so we can see what is going on...are the leaks really big and maybe they woke you up...lots of things could be going on and without more detailed information it's kinda hard to offer anything but generalities.
Your machine...in the equipment menu...forget the Remstar part of the model name as they have stuck that on everything since time began.
Look for equipment grouping that begins with PR System One .......
If you have the apap machine it is likely the 560 machine (look on the bottom of the blower unit for confirmation with a 3 digit number) and the correct machine choice would be
PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP
Go here and request the provider/clinical manual if you don't have one so you know about the inner workings of your machine.
