full mask too hot in summer?

Post by jootee » Mon Jun 23, 2014 6:52 pm

Hi,
I have been wearing a full mask which I have been happy with but last night was a very warm night and I felt like I was suffocating! It was so hot with that mask on. Does anyone else find it too hot in summer for a full mask?

108 here in lovely Arizona... The nights are warm and even though it is dry, I find that a little humidity with warm air makes me uncomfortable. I often turn the humidifier down to 1 or even fill the water chamber but do not add heat. Seems to work well for me.

I will have to fiddle with the machine to figure out how not to add heat then.

You might try turning down the humidification. I've found that on sultry days the added humidity can make it feel oppressive. Of course I've now abandoned my full-face mask for a much smaller and lighter one; that's also an option.

I make sure its COLD in the room, or have a quiet fan blowing.

Its not the mask, its the breathing of that hot, humidified air that makes you claustrophobic.

Try the AC down to 67 and see how that works one night.

I would suggest that you treat the "suffocating" feeling as a separate issue. Regardless of the temperature... you should not have that feeling. Are you in the autopap mode? If so what are your numbers? Maybe you could increase the bottom number a bit, so you won't feel suffocated.

Try a mask liner, like Pad a cheek.

Mask liner plus cold air from Unheated humidification keeps things comfortable on hot nights.

Suffocating from untreated apnea gives me hot flashes. Stay cool--wear your mask.

Well I fiddled with the settings last night and turned the heat right off on the tube and the humidity down to 1. I won't do that again! I found out what rainout means and I guess the wetness caused leaks all night. Just ordered resmed swift fx nasal pillow mask to try. Hoping I have better luck.

try the humidity off... if it's hot and humid, you may not need it.

Its called Air Conditioning.. It is a marvelous invention that was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier, a skilled engineer who began experimenting with the laws of humidity control to solve an application problem at a printing plant in Brooklyn, NY.

We have been comfortable ever since.

I wish you well

Well I appreciate the history lesson but our season doesn't justify installing air conditioning.
