I have just been just diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and will get geared up shortly.
But I wonder if there may be a relationship between the Apnea and my shortness of breath during the day. It is intermittent and despite massive doctor checking for every problem (defective heart valve, lung problems, heart problems, gastric reflux, MRI's etc) the cause has not been found.
Has anyone a similar problem or knowledge about this?
Thanks
Dennis

Re: Anyone with Apnea have shortness of breath during the day?
I was just diagnosed, and I have shortness of breath when exerting myself (it doesn't take much - just some walking up hill or climbing stairs) and I noticed this symptom at the same time as the other sleep apnea symptoms appeared (sleepiness during the day, bad sleep, crazy, night-long dreams when trying to sleep) so I think it's related. I also have lower back pain which got worse at the same time, and I'm wondering if the lower back pain is related to the sleep apnea (of course, being overweight is a reason for it all most likely).

i learned the long way around that if you are having problems and the doc says you look good on paper you must consider anxiety. it took me a few ER visits to get it all sorted out.

I think you can have sleep problems of bacterial infections.
Babesia is a bacterium that provides air hunger. And if many symptoms appear about the same time, or within a year or so, you get enough to consider an infection in the body. There are many bacteria that cause problems, chronic problems if not detected in time.

Re: Anyone with Apnea have shortness of breath during the day?
I suspect, that one can have Aerophagia that can cause, when one first gets up in the morning, a sense that one can not breathe well. Even if one got a good nights sleep this can happen. That is the air in the stomach can put pressure on the lungs, and even the heart. In the best case, one will belch out the air or it gets shuffled off somewhere when one moves around for a few minutes. But I suspect that effect would go away relatively quickly. Unless one already has a heart problem it is only an annoyance.
Obviously shortness of breath while doing some kind of activity, should be considered a true heart problem. Whatever the ER doc said, "Time to see a Cardiologist with more sophisticated tests. If you have never heard. The words Heart Attack refer to having permanent damage to ones heart. A resting EKG can only indicate the level of damage that has already occurred, not an accurate predictor of blockages or whether you will have a heart attack. Heart Attacks can occur without any exertion. Early treatment of a heart problem, can result in a far more enjoyable happy life. Often having a heart problem, also has with it, a sense of doom, of hopelessness, which convinces some to delay seeking treatment. Some so called anxiety problems are not neurological, or about the negative circumstances of ones life: The Anxiety is related to a TRUE heart problem, which can be found, and treated. Before the shrink, see a Cardiologist. If you do not have insurance or money, realize you are not going to work, and all the consequences of that, if you have a heart attack. Having unpaid medical bills is as bad on your credit report as you might think. See the Cardiologist.
Heart problems are best treated pro actively.

That topic has been broached quite a bit on this forum. To find these past threads just type this phrase in your internet browser's search engine, for instance, Google (cpaptalk's search engine isn't very good):
site: cpaptalk.com shortness of breath
And variations of that phrase. Lots of threads will pop up, so just scroll down and see what's available.
My opinion is that 'yes' apnea can cause pulmonary issues if left untreated.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
