mask setting

Post by MaryGordon » Wed Jun 18, 2014 12:27 am

Currently I am alternating between a full face mask and nasal pillows. Last night I forgot to change the settings and slept with nasal pillows but with the machine on full face settings. I had a brilliant night! Can anyone work out from that what it might have meant, if anything, in terms of the machine doing something different, please?
I suppose I'm asking what difference the mask settings make and having used the wrong setting is there a way I can turn that into what I use regularly? Obviously I could just leave it on the full face setting while using the nasal pillow mask, but I'd like to know what the difference is.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.

The mask setting allows you to select the type of mask you're using but it doesn't change in any way how the machine functions. It's just a feature that refines the leak calculations when reporting your sleep data -- different mask types have different vent ("expected" or "intentional" leak) rates, so selecting your type of mask ensures better accuracy in the leak stats. But functionally no difference.

The mask setting for the ResMed determines the offset used in the calculation of leaks to reflect the different amounts of venting for various types of masks. In other words, the ResMeds report the "net Leak" after subtracting off the "intentional leak" for the mask selected.

Thank you so much kaiasgram and Nick: that's exactly what I needed to know. So it was a complete coincidence that I had a good night!

Maybe not that big a coincidence.
You forgot to change the setting, meaning you could have already been good and ready to sleep.
The right mental state can impact how well we sleep.
