Keeping headgear in place

Post by SmoothieMom » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:50 am

I'm going on 48 wonderful days of cpap therapy, and I've been working out the kinks and I have finally found what works...almost. I can't keep my headgear in place. I'm female, long hair, and I have to adjust the back of the head strap at least 3 times a night. I think I've been waking up because when the strap rides up, the nasal pillows aren't in place anymore, and I wake up. I've tried bobby pins, that doesn't work. I can't think of anything else. I have the Pro version of headgear.

An old trick used by some Swift FX nasal pillow mask users for that lower back strap wanting to ride up was the adding of a bit of velcro to the lower strap so that it sort of grabs the hair a bit to help keep it from sliding up.
No reason why that trick couldn't be used on the Nuance back strap.
Of course if it is the lower hair itself sliding up because it is longer and has more mobility then that probably wouldn't help much.

Others do the long hair in a ponytail of sorts and place that wayward strap below the ponytail so the ponytail blocks the strap movement.

Someone here (maybe Pugsy?) introduced me to the 'pony tail method' she describes above. Its works wonders, not only does it keep the headgear in place but it reduces bumps on my hair in the morning.
