Recommendation for Nasal Pillow

Post by newcpap » Mon Jun 09, 2014 8:49 am

Hello everyone,

I am planning to go for Septoplasty and Reduction of Turbinates surgery to clear my nasal path and allow me to use nasal pillow (instead of full face mask I am currently using). I was hoping to get some advice on which of ResMed Nasal Pillow masks got best reviews, especially for side-sleepers (like myself)....

Thanks in advance...

I'm relatively new to CPAP but I use the ResMed Airfit P10 and I love it! I've used it for nearly 2 months now. I am also a side sleeper.

Good luck with your surgery! I had my turbinate coblation done almost a year ago, and it does help considerably. Prior to my surgery, I was using the Wisp nasal mask, but post-surgery, I switched to the F&P Pilairo Q which is a nasal pillow. It is extremely light, has a snug and comfortable fit, and comes with two head gears depending on your preference. I am also a side sleeper, and find the Pilairo Q stays where it is put once inflated. It has such a snug fit, that I only need to use the single strap around the back of my head. That was the only thing I hated about the Wisp, the full head gear. That bothers me more than the mask!

I have never tried the ResMed nasal pillow, but I suggest you look into the F&P Pilairo Q. BTW, the "Q" is for quiet, and it certainly is! My DH prefers this mask over my Wisp because it is so quiet, he doesn't know I'm wearing it! Good luck!

I would suggest the Airfit P10.

Regardless of the pillow you choose, I would suggest going ahead and getting it to try out. One, just to see the ease and comfort of use over a FFM. If like me, it may convince you to be determined to get away from a FFM. And 2nd - you may find the xPAP pressure "splints" your nose open much like it does your throat.

I too assumed I was a mouth breather and have fought the FFM. The Airfit P10 is SOOO much nicer to use I can make it most of the night, and will probably be having a septoplasty/turb reduction in July.

edit - fixed some typos.

I'm a side sleeper, and have been using the Swift FX for some time now. Tried the AirFit P10, didn't work for me. So if you try the AirFit P10, and it isn't all that you're looking for *smile*, you could try the Swift FX.

I second the nominations for Airfit P10 and Swift FX. I use the P10 regularly now, but the Swift FX is an excellent mask. The P10 is lighter, quieter, and tends to "disappear" from my head after a few minutes. The Swift FX is a bit more bulk (nothing compared to a FFM), and the vent is much more pronounced, but I find it a bit easier to breathe through (inhale, not sure why), and as a side sleeper I do find it is a little more comfortable next to the pillow as it is all soft pillow, but the P10 has a hard part that connects to the pillow. Both work very well for me. If I was going to suggest only one try the P10. That being said, I continue to use both and keep stock of replacement parts for both.

I'm having good success with the F&P Pilairo Q, whether sleeping on my side or my back. I like that it is so lightweight and the bridge is wide enough to distribute any pressure along the upper lip, instead of just one tiny spot like the Respironics Nuance pro gel which I had tried.
Best of luck with surgery and recovery.

I use both the Swift FX and the AirFit P10. They both work well for side sleeping for me. Both masks are comfortable (or rather as comfortable as a CPAP mask can be). Each mask has its pluses and minuses. And which I use on any given night depends on a whole host of different things, one of which is "which is clean" when one's clean and the other needs a good washing.

I highly recommend the AirFit P10. I love this mask! My second choice would be the Piliaro, it is light with the 1 piece headgear, but the pillows are very delicate & tear easily.

I think you will hear from a lot of folks the AirFit P10 is by far the favorite.

I'm another airfit p10 lover. Quiet and comfortable. I also sleep on my side. I thought I was a mouth breather and started with a ff. That lasted 3 days. I don't even have to use a chinstrap now, and I've only been on APAP since February. Before the airfit, I was using a Nuance pro gel nasal pillow, but that has a very strong exhaust that bothered both me and my spouse. It also didn't stay in place quite as well.
