HBO Go and NetFlix Streaming - Movie Suggestions?

Post by ButtermilkBuoy » Wed Jun 04, 2014 4:42 pm

I have some ortho surgery coming up and it looks like four to five days mostly on the sofa.

I rarely have time to watch movies but thought maybe I would watch a few during at home recovery. The TV is hooked up to HBO Go and NetFlix streaming.

I have no idea about movies. Any recommendations?

I would avoid anything too emotional. How about Back to the Future? I have no idea what your tastes are or if you've seen it, but that's a classic in my book.

Thanks for the recommendation JL, but if a movie doesn't stir the emotions, why bother?

Well, I am all for stirred emotions. Just meant that you might not want to watch something too sad while recovering from surgery. Just like Food Network isn't good to watch if you have stomach flu. Probably not a fitting comparison, but I try.

Understood. But I am a glutton for punishment.

I was just given a recommendation for NetFlix streaming - "The Selfish Giant". Anyone seen that one?

"Sleepless in Seattle"

Made back in Meg Ryan's pre-cosmetic surgery days.

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend the BBC series Sherlock. It's a series, but each episode is film-length and there are four to a season. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Sherlock Holmes to Martin Freeman's Watson, set in modern London. The acting is excellent, especially the relationship between Holmes and Watson. And Netflix just informed me by email that the third season is now available.

NetFlix has a great selection of comedies. Just browse thru the selections and you'll be sure to find something to make you laugh. Usually they have the early seasons included free with the basic membership. I like Portlandia, by the famous Lorne Michaels, the SNL producer. If you like SNL you'll like Portlandia.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

You can binge watch original series on netflix. I recommend Orange is the New Black (2nd season posts Frday!) and Lilliehammer. I liked tv series too. 24 is great but VERY intense. I started Breaking Bad.

"180 South"

Nice photography, story and relaxing; nothing gets killed or blown up.

Also recommend 24. If you have any pain or discomfort from your surgery, this show will definitely take your mind off of it. as I agree about it being very intense.

Good luck with it by the way.

I started with this one. Excellent movie. Sundance film I believe.

Thank you Latinist! I watched all three seasons - every episode very good.

I am out traveling and mobile again but committed to taking it easier this summer due to surgery. While taking it easy I want to watch another series or two. Any more suggestions?

I have never seen "Once Upon a Time in America" which my friend says is his favorite movie. Any idea how to watch it without buying the Blu-ray?

Thanks.

Are you up to date on Game of Thrones?

If you like SciFi, the Dr. Who series restart from a few years ago is very good and there are a LOT of episodes out there.

Name some other things you liked - that will help us come up with ideas.
