I found this to be an interesting article on how sleep apnea can potentically cause hearing loss. In the last 4 years I have been diagnosed with not only sleep apnea but also hearing loss for which I required two hearing aids. I'm curious to know if others also got both diagnoses?

Re: Sleep apnea and hearing loss
Hard to say which comes first - the apnea or the hearing loss. I do have both, with some tinnitus that continues almost all the time. It seems reasonable given how sensitive our ears are to inflammation/ loud noises, why not sleep apnea as a cause of hearing loss?

Not a medical professional - just a patient who has done a lot of reading

This article is the result of a presentation on May 20th of this year and hasn't been the subject of peer review.
Several of the health/medical sites have picked up on it including WebMD.
It is interesting but not definitive yet. Something to watch over time.

Re: Sleep apnea and hearing loss
Interesting, I have severe and profound hearing loss. I've worn a hearing aid since I was a kid but the loss kept sinking and I had no idea why.
Although I'm not complaining much, sounds wont disturb me when trying to sleep.

Re: Sleep apnea and hearing loss
It is interesting, and plausible because the throat and ears are connected, and serviced by ENT specialists. I think the jury's still out on it though. I too have had hearing loss since childhood, started wearing a hearing aid at the same time I started school. Hearing has been relatively stable since 1950, next hearing test will tell me if I've lost any since the last test, which was prior to starting cpap.
