Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
I need some information on what primary desktop operating systems you use, or would prefer to use, with SleepyHead.
While I'd love every platform operating under the sun supported, I use a cross platform library called Qt so I don't have to think about this stuff. So when Qt drops support for an operating system, SleepyHead loses it too, unless it's built with an older version of Qt, which forces SleepyHead codebase to try not to use any advanced or new features provided in newer Qt versions, holding it back.
The main one Qt has on the chopping block is Mac OSX 10.6.x, which will be deprecated in a Qt release due this month. If OSX 10.6 is important to you, please vote so I can decide whether it's worth the effort for me to try and maintain support, because the newer versions of Qt contain important bugs fixes, some that are a nightmare to work around if I'm stuck using an old one.
I'm fairly sure WinXP is going to get it in the neck over the next year or two, now Microsoft has (finally!) officially ended support.
It's not all bad news though.. out with the old, in with the new: The newer Qt versions bring rapidly improving Win Phone 8, WinRT, Android and iOS versions, and with recent changes I've (just) made to the graphics system, it's not unforseeable that there may be a phone/tablet version of Sleepyhead soon.

Re: Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
I cast my vote for my Mac since it's the primary machine I use SH on. However, I do still have it installed on a Win 7 netbook that does get used more than "very occasionally" for looking at data.

Re: Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
I still have my XP laptop because Encore Viewer for my original Bipap ASV won't run under Win 7.
But I have a brand new Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine (custom built) which I will run Sleepyhead on if I can get the archive to unzip.
Would be getting my new ASV tomorrow except that FedEx didn't deliver it! (Hisss....) Oh well, gives me more time to sort out getting new software set up to handle the new machine.
I'm SO glad Sleepyhead now supports the 960!

If you want to use Encore Viewer on a Win 7 Pro system, you could use a virtual Windows XP machine that doesn't have network access to the outside world. Using VMware Player or Oracle VirtualBox, both are free. On the other hand, sounds like you don't need Encore software anymore, so never mind *smile*.Kiralynx wrote:I still have my XP laptop because Encore Viewer for my original Bipap ASV won't run under Win 7.

Just rewrite everything. It's a SMOP. Simple Matter Of Programming. Should only take you a week or so, right?
What's the future of Linux ports look like? I've got a friend who's loading Linux on a laptop. Is the latest Linux version really 0.9.2, or am I missing something?
Thanks again for all your effort.

0.9.3 has been available for Gentoo since it came out. I'm not sure how many other distros package sleepyhead. This is largely up to the individual distros.archangle wrote:What's the future of Linux ports look like? I've got a friend who's loading Linux on a laptop. Robysue -- which version of the Mac OS are you using? If it is older than 10.7, you may wish to consider upgrading to a newer version of the operating system if your Mac supports it.robysue wrote:I cast my vote for my Mac since it's the primary machine I use SH on.
Here's a good primer for folks wondering what version they are using, and what the steps might be to upgrade their MacOS.

JediMark -
I accidentally voted for OSX 10.6, but I am actually on 10.7.5, so please adjust accordingly. Unfortunately, I don't see any way to adjust my vote.
10.7.5 is the terminal OS for this machine, unfortunately; I've got the old Intel GMA X3100 graphics for which there exists no 64-bit kext. I'm hoping to get another year or two out of it since I replaced my HDD with an SSD and it's purring like new, but I'll probably end up getting a new MacBook before QT drops 10.7 support.

Re: Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
I use my win8.1 netbook because it is handy, portable, etc.
If I could get the sd card to upload to my ipad Air without going through another computer,
and sleepyhead worked on the ipad, (maybe it will--I dunno) I could leave the netbook at home.
You know so much more than I--maybe everybody does.
Surprising I worked 24 years at a computer!

Windows 7 for as long as I can get away with it (ie. pry it from my cold dead fingers). You can keep your Win 8 touchscreens.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I just have a chiclet keyboard--no touch screen.

I use Windows Vista and really appreciate the work you have done on Sleepyhead.
Re: Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
Actually, I have a virtual XP on the Win 7 machine, but do not know how to set up Encore on it... and my technical support gentleman has been extremely busy.RogerSC wrote: If you want to use Encore Viewer on a Win 7 Pro system, you could use a virtual Windows XP machine that doesn't have network access to the outside world. I may have an interesting time, as I cannot get Sleepyhead to unpack (two different programs say it's an invalid archive), and Encore Pro is ignoring me, even AFTER I rebooted the machine.

Re: Which Operating System do you use with SleepyHead?
I use 10.6 Snow Leopard most of the day, as it still runs some old trusty software that is a part of my work flow. Once or twice a week I go into 10.9 (Mavericks) to run one or two programs that won't work in the older Mac OS. If SleepyHead stops working on the old system, then I'll run Mavericks a little more often.

It's the small Windows netbook that is relatively old and running Windows 7.something. I don't use it often but when hubby has to use the mac laptop for something his Windows 7.something machine cannot do, he'll appropriate my mac. And that's when I use the netbook.
