Now, I officially hate Apria
In early March, I found a package on my porch. I haven't ordered anything online of late, so I wondered what it was. Lo and behold, Apria decided to send me some overpriced product, including a mask I don't even use, and bill my credit card $83.
My insurance requires that I use Apria. I did use them for the purchase of my original equipment. Since that time I have used CPAP.com because I didn't want to deal with their craziness. Well, just having my credit card info seems to have cost me it's own manner of trouble.
I called the Apria office which is about 30 miles from my home. They asked me to bring it back to them. I declined. They acknowledged that I never placed an order with them. They said they would send a return ticket with FedEx and once they got it back, they would credit my account. I told them they would be crediting my account anyway since I never ordered the items. I asked about whether they charged my insurance company, since I changed insurance companies in January. They actually had my current information, which is scary all by itself.
Since they haven't credited my account, I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge. I just received a letter from my credit card company saying that Apria will not respond to their request about the charge and if I wanted them to continue pursuing it, I have to write them a letter to confirm that, otherwise they would consider the charge valid.
This sounded like a case of insurance fraud, so I called my insurance company. They contacted Apria and Apria says they're going to refund the money. Funny thing is, they never billed my insurance company.
In the meantime, I went ahead and wrote the letter to the credit card company so they can continue pursuing the matter because Apria still hasn't credited mt account, and it's been over a month since they got their product back.
All of this trouble for nothing. I'm not even dealing with Apria as my DME, and this is why!

I went to Yelp, and this particular office has a rating of 1.5 stars. It would be a 1 star, but there are two suspicious 5 star ratings among a sea of 1 stars. The stories there are horrible.

Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
One thing you could do is contact your credit card company and ask them to issue you a new card with a different account number and tell your credit card company not to accept anymore charges from Apria without your credit card company contacting you first about any future charges. Sounds to me like your credit card was not an American Express Card; I have one and they are the best to have when disputing charges. Why did Apria need your credit card? I was with Apria for years until my insurance changed and I lost them as my DME; I never had problems with Apria like what you have just described here; seems to me like you've been through a big hassle.ughwhatname wrote:In early March, I found a package on my porch. Apria doesn't take Amex, so I gave them my Visa. They obviously kept the info, and maybe needed to meet some quarterly sales goal... Whatever possessed them to send me a mask, hose and two filters, I'll never know. I've never dealt with a more unscrupulous company.

I too have t deal with Apria and not by choice. My office is, at best, a black hole. I get nothing from them and I have nothing to do with them really. All my supplies (which I request) come from Apria corporate. Care to divulge the local Apria we should avoid at all cost?

Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
I would just recommend reviewing Yelp if doing business with them and pay cash only if they have less than two stars. Funny thing is, I never even went to that office or dealt with that branch. I originally went to an office near my work, in another county! I had no issues with them at all. Why these folks sent me product is one of those great mysteries.

Our local office are OK. I get along with them. The main office is another thing.
They demanded my credit card number in the beginning, and shortly after tried to charge me for copays
(that were maybe a little late) from my supplement.
My card didn't work--{Thank you, Target-- }
When they called me, I pointed out that my supplement is a plan F, which covers everything!
I informed them they do not need my new number. They continue to sell me supplies without complaint.

Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
My local Apria office has been really good...
They let me do numerous mask exchanges in the beginning even when I had only tried one mask for 3 nights.
I periodically call them for supplies and they typically arrive within 3-5 business days.

Ugh... I hated the experience with Apria and I'm glad I did not have to go through them thanks to all the advise on this board.

A question for everyone:
Does your Apria office only take credit cards?
I tried to pay with a check and they said that their office does not accept checks.
I wanted to use a check to avoid them having my credit card number.

That's really interesting... a big company not accepting checks sure sounds fishy to me. I don't understand how they can continue to get away with what they do. Strange that someone or some entity has not come down hard on them.xyz wrote:> pay cash only

I hope you and UGH at least give them horrible reviews.

Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
OMG... I just read this Apria thread today and decided to place my monthly order. The local rep in San Jose said that as of today Apria is centralizing their order operation and xfer'd me over to the new national order system. Some very nice but obviously new-to-CPAP young guy tried to help me. He initially asked me a few questions, one of which was what credit card I'd prefer to use. Har, har... good one I said... I've got Medicare and supplemental insurance so I don't want to give you a credit card number. He said he would talk to his supervisor, so I waited a bit and he came back and said that I'd be good to go without a CC#. Thank God I read this post today!
Next were a dozen more questions to verify that all my medical info was correct. Finally he said I could get 90 days worth of supplies per order, but I was suspicious because if there was a screw-up I'd be billed for TONS of money. I opted for 30 day orders. On the plus side, he said I now can get TWO QFX cushions a month. I was again skeptical, since that hasn't been the case before, however I went ahead and ordered two for this month. Finally I asked if he could put/embed notes on my file and he said yes. I asked that he put in a note that requested Apria to confirm any order with my insurance company and Medicare before shipping it to me - plus to give me a call if there was a problem. He said it was noted: We'll just have to wait to see if that happens.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
EVERYTHING I did three - four weeks ago had to go through the national office. They kept messing up my order. That's why I came here and opened up a thread and was advised to just go online for purchases instead of through Apria. Despite not using my insurance I'm still saving tons of money.Sir NoddinOff wrote:OMG... I just read this Apria thread today and decided to place my monthly order. Re: Now, I officially hate Apria
If you are forced to use a credit card, see about using a prepaid card or get a special card just for that account. Then you can leave a tiny or zero balance to prevent charges being added without your permission.
I have a "credit card" that is really just a prepaid account that has my name on the card and looks like a regular credit card. But I have to add money to use it.
