ResMed Nano and Leaks

Post by ~Q~ » Mon Apr 28, 2014 12:14 am

Have any of you tried the Nano and found that it leaked quit a bit? My daily mask is the Respironics Wisp, so the concept is very similar to the Nano. Note: I also have the Eson, which I don't like because of the funky strut on your forehead.

I had high hopes for the Nano because it uses minimal headgear of the FX. The pillow itself also looks good because the dual seals.

My problem may be that I bought a pillow size that is too big for my face. I when with the wide pillow because I use a large pillow on the Wisp. Pugsy gave me a sizing guide to try and I;m right on the boarder between standard and wide. I might cough up another $45 and try the standard.

However, I am curious if others have had leak problems.

Thanks

According the the sizing guide I was maybe a standard. Close to small though.
I still got the small because it was a close call to the standard. Initially when I put the Small on I thought maybe I screwed up but it ended up fitting perfect.
No leaks to speak of...heck I even used it with the Bella Loops and after first night of adjustments...second night had an almost perfect leak line and I slept great with it.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a nasal cushion mask fan. I am totally nasal pillow fan.
The Nano cushion will seal effectively and comfortably (at least for me) and I liked the Nano well enough to keep it for a some day when maybe I can't use a nasal pillow mask. It is the only over the nose mask that I have in my arsenal of masks.

Of course YMMV.
BTW I only lasted 90 minutes with the Wisp. Seemed like 6 hours but it was only 90 minutes. That's a different story though.
Leaks weren't the problem though. It was stuff on my nose problem.

I have used the Nano for about 1/2 yr. I have found that it leaks if there is any tension from the hose on the mask. I take a length of the hose and tuck it under the covers making a short "U" bend leading to the CPAP. I try to have the mask sit a little lower on the bridge of my nose. I lift the mask off my nose when the blower is up to full volume of air and settle the mask back down over my nose and use a finger tip to ensure the "skirt" edge is going the right direction. I do like how light it is on my face.

That was my observation also.
I also found that tension from the hose either up or down made the mask leak much more than with side to side tension. But, even the side to side tension produced pretty bad leaks.

I was NEVER able to solve the leaking problem - even after shelling out for 2 different sized cushions.

hummm..... looks like I'm going to have to order a standard size now and see if it works any better. I do like how light it is and the material the cushion is made out of is more flexible than the pillow on the Wisp. You would think with the double skirt/seal on the Nano, it would seal really well. My wisp just as the one seal/skirt.

Anyhow, I ordered a standard cushion, so we'll see how that one works. I'll keep you guys posted.

I ordered the Standard size cushion for the nano and it still leaks for me quite a bit more than the Wisp. I like the much lighter headgear than the Wisp, but the leaking (mostly right up into my left eye) is bad enough that I ripped it off during the night and went back to the Wisp.

So, looks like it's another mask headed to my mask grave yard.....

I love this cushion, even more than cushions. I found that using the sizing feAture on my S9 every night until I got accustomed to what felt like an un-leaky fit. Now I never go over the large leak line with the Nano.

Try it with Bella Loops - no headgear!
