How does the pressure on F&P icon auto+ work?

Post by caryrae73 » Fri Apr 11, 2014 12:48 pm

I have the Fisher & Paykel Icon+ Auto machine. How does the pressure setting work? My doctor has mine set to 10min 20 max. Does the machine adjust the pressure at any number between 10 and 20 or does it use either 10 or 20? How does the machine decide what pressure to use?

hi there I have this one and it's a good machine

I think your doc has done well if he set a minimum - mine didn't . The range where the automation occurs is limited to between 10 and 20 - so you go to sleep, for example, you flip to your back, it was on 10 minimum, it goes up to 15 to take care of that.

trouble is - it takes a while to work up a pressure, so if you start at 0 and suddenly "need " 15, you may have an event wake you up before you got there - knowing this, I broke into the therapy settings of my machine and put it on 7-20 then I told my therapist why I'd done it - every time I drifted off to sleep an event woke me up because the response would have been something like 0 while I drifted off then I pass out, BANG system needs 9 or something in 2 seconds or I'm going to wake up..... etc.......thankfully he bought into why I did it and agreed

I generally think a minimum on an APAP should be there - otherwise the machine might not get to where it needs to be in time!

regards
Andy
