Machine Starting To Fail?

Post by KAZ » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:56 pm

My machine is a RESMED VPAP AUTO 25 with right at 11,000 hours and has never had more than an almost silent hum as it worked, but, just this week it become noisy. For certain machine noise and not mask/airline. The noise is a high pitched whine much like a pump trying to achieve suction. Makes it hard to ignore, then it will be back to perfect quite operation for one night(or half night) so the noise is intermittent. My results are still good so other than the noise change the machine is working well. I have checked filter, humi, supply hose, and if it is vibrating against something, all is well. Is this machine beginning to fail in the blower unit?

It certainly sounds like the blower unit is failing. Probably a bearing going out.

that would be my guess as well as the most likely candidate for the sound, or it could just need a good cleaning, something inside whistling as the air passes

one can tell by the sound for the most part, if you know and have experience with small motor bearing noises

Thanks, I'm thinking the same thing re a bearing. To bad, it has been so good. Made me wonder how many hours these machines have for an average service life. Regards

At 11,000 hours it's getting close to the designed life expectancy. Still it's a bummer if it's just a bearing.

The S9 machines are enough better than the older models that it's worth trying to get a new one. Insurance may pay based on age or problems wit the old unit.

What pressure settings do you use? Do you know why you have a VPAP instead of a regular auto machine?

You can sometimes find an S9 AutoSet on Craigslist, but S9 VPAP Auto is a lot harder to find.
