Mask Question

Post by Bitman » Fri Apr 04, 2014 9:24 am

I've been using the Mirage Quattro, full face mask with good luck.
Just an occasional sore spot on my nose.
I bought a Mirage Activa nasal mask to try.
My problem is that I find it very hard to exhale with this nasal mask.
The air doesn't seem to discharge as well out the vents as it does on the Quattro.
My pressure is a constant 9.5
any suggestions.

According to the manuals the vent rate on the MQ is about 8 LPM higher than on the MA at your stated pressure, so that may be enough that you notice a difference.

I've had that feeling happen on a few masks that I've tried.

Bitman, You may want to try EPR. It will let you reduce your exhale by 1, 2 or 3 ml H2O.

Sometimes when going from a full face mask to a smaller nasal mask it will feel like the pressure is higher or exhaling is harder. This may be due to the larger full face mask having more "space" for the air to come in and fill up before you breathe it in vs a smaller nasal mask. I tend to get this response "wow that feels harder" when fitting a patient and trying a full face mask and then going to a nasal or even a pillow mask. Pillow mask (of course) tend to 'feel' like they are blowing harder than the other mask.
May just take some time to get used to wearing it.

I just noticed that last night when trying out my first nasal mask, but I thought it was just my imagination.
