Looking for a recommendation for a sleep center in US
Looking for a recommendation for a sleep center in US
I've been seeking treatment for about 4 month now for severe fatigue due to poor sleep, but have not made much progress in determining the cause (the main theory is UARS right now) or finding a treatment that helps. Non-surgical treatments haven't helped and it's hard to make a decision about surgeries, if I'm not even sure I've a breathing disorder. The biggest challenge has been finding a doctor who would be willing to spend some time to learn about my history and analyze the sleep study data. So, at this point I'm willing to travel anywhere in the US and stay there as long as it takes (on leave from my job now). If anybody here had a good experience with their sleep specialist, I would really appreciate your help. It's easy enough to check education, research activities, accreditation, etc, but what I really care about is conscientiousness and willingness to dig a little deeper for ambiguous cases.

Becoming a Patient
Some people will benefit from more personalized or directed treatment programs. You may wish to visit our center in Albuquerque, New Mexico to become a patient at Maimonides International Nightmare Treatment. Or, you may want to use some other pathway such as telemedicine or distance medicine, which might involve phone or video conferencing. For some patients, email communication may be sufficient.
As there are many ways to initiate treatment through our facilities, the best way to start is by contacting either of the two main resournces below. Once we know a little bit more about your goals, we can direct you to the best treatment pathways.
•Nightmare Health Educator, Linda Trujillo at 505.998.7219
•Office Manager, Marianne Porter at 505.998.7208
If at any time, you are certain you want to visit us at the center in New Mexico for on-site care, then click on our sister site, http://www.sleeptreatment.com and then click on the green Patients button in the upper right hand corner. This will take you to an area to show you how to register on-line as the first step in becoming a patient at our center.

Dr. Mithri R. Junna
Mayo Clinic
Rochester, Minnesota
They have an excellent sleep lab and she is a conscientious and caring doctor.
Their system allows their doctors to do internal referrals for complex cases.
Their costs are very competitive to local centers.
I hope you get an answer somewhere.

My sleep center is also at the Mayo Clinic - Rochester; I had a different doctor, but as the previous poster said, the docs at Mayo can do internal referrals to other departments.

I don't know where you live , so that complicates suggestions for seeking treatment. I believe that we can find good treatment at smaller, regional centers as well as at the nationally famous medical centers.
I had excellent experience from Dr. Bradley Bittle at St Francis Sleep Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and their sleep lab was very thorough and helpful.. Dr. Bittle was willing to spend time reviewing my sleep test data and made excellent suggestions regarding equipment.

I'm sure all of these people and places are very good. Like TheDuke said, it isn't necessary to go to a large famous clinic like the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, etc. so a lot depends on where you live. I live in Rochester, so Mayo Clinic is where I get all of medical needs taken care of, but there are many good places to go.

I agree with this one. His treatment saved my butt. I had been on CPAP for several years and started having troubles and Dr. K got to the bottom of things and put me on ASV. Absolutely life changing.

Hi Jeff,
Did you actually go out to D. Krakow's sleep center in New Mexico for a sleep study?
What was his reasoning on changing you from CPAP to ASV?

Have you contacted any of the suggested centers yet?
Any of the ones suggested seem to me to be capable of dealing with most problems.
