Looking to sell my CPAP
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but upon trying to use my prescribed CPAP, I wake in panic because there's such intense pressure in my skull that it feels like my head might pop. I had a sinuplasty done a few months afterwards (for other reasons but I had hoped it would allow more comfortable usage of the CPAP) and, while my breathing has improved I still felt I needed the CPAP to get the energy level I was looking. Unfortunately, I still have the head-pressure issue.
I haven't used it in 3-4 months and, since it's been fully paid off, I cant return it.
I'm attempting to sell to secondwind CPAP, however I'm unsure about doing business with them.
I'm asking this community if anyone knows of reputable buyers of used CPAPs or if I could possibly sell to someone who needs one but cant afford a new one.
The CPAP in question is a ResMed S9 Autoset that was purchased new 10/21/13. Full Face Mask with the tube that's attached to it are the only ones I used. The nasal mask is basically unused. Used a grand total of...4 hours according to the machine.
Here's some images taken of the machine and everything I intend to sell with it: http://s295.photobucket.com/user/raiden ... brary/CPAP
Again, is secondwind trustworthy or are there any good places to sell my CPAP?

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
cpap's are actually very low pressure like in the .25 psi range. it can't even blow up a balloon. don't beieve it? stick a balloon on the outlet and see for yourself. everybody has a hard time adjusting to this thing wrapped around our head blowing air at us. change your attitude and try again. you've got one of the best machines. being tired is the very least of the problems not using it.

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
Welcome to the group. I know you don't plan on staying, but I hope we can change your mind. Sleep apnea will cause a lot of damage and will get worse over time. If your machine was paid for with insurance, you probably won't be able to get another one covered within 5 years, so you would be out of luck if you sell it and then want to try again.
If you tell us more about your situation and equipment (which mask, pressure settings, etc), we can help you make it work. Most doctors and DMEs are useless with learning how to adjust to a cpap machine as well as making use of the data and changing the settings to work better for you. Your Autoset has full data that can be used with free software to find out how it is doing. There are ways to ease into the treatment. It could also be that you need a different mask.
Please let us help you and give it another try. Keep in mind that sleep apnea is more than sleep deprivation. It is oxygen deprivation. That causes damage to your organs (especially your heart and brain), and over the years, that can really cause some serious damage.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
To your question: secondwindcpap is very reputable. Many of us have worked with them. You could sell it yourself as well, with only 4 hours on it someone would likely snatch it up for a good price.
Two suggestions though: First, take photos of the screen displays showing Hours Used and also Total Run Hours. Prospective buyers will want to see that.
Second, maybe consider seeing what you can do to make it work for you. Four hours of effort wouldn't be enough for the sturdiest among us. I'm curious what your prescribed pressure is, and did you have another sleep study after your surgery? I wonder if you have any wiggle room to start out on a lower pressure. Well heck, if the alternative is no pressure then what do you have to lose by trying a lower pressure?
I do believe you about the headache because I sometimes get a headache between and behind my eyes when on the machine. But maybe it's not time to conclude that there's nothing you can do. FWIW, we're here to help if you want to give it another go before selling.

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
The pressure setting is set at 13 cm. Any lower than that proved ineffective during my sleep study. I may set it back up and try on lower pressures and see if I can handle it.
The machine during the sleep study worked wonders and I didnt necessarily get woken up by pressure in my skull. Then again, the machine's pressure was changed at least 3 times during the study.
And thanks of letting me know that secondwind is trustworthy. At least I'll have some place to sell it if I cant use it.

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
You're welcome.
Your pressure of 13 is not high by some standards, but it's not super low either and I think it could give me a headache. My max pressure is 9.5 and that sometimes gives me headaches -- not bad enough to keep me from using the machine but it sure doesn't feel good.
You don't have much to lose by lowering the pressure and seeing how it goes. There's a link to the video tutorial for the Autoset in my signature box below. You'll be able to access the clinical menu if you don't already know how, and there you can change the pressure settings and some other features (Ramp, exhale pressure relief, climate control, etc.)
If you find you can tolerate a lower pressure then you could download the free software many of us use to see what's going on with our therapy. I wonder if there's a viable 'balance point' where you are getting at least some treatment and having better sleep, but you aren't at a high enough pressure to cause the severe headaches.
Mask style and fit also can make all the difference, something else to experiment with. Few of us find that the first mask we try is "the one."

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
Some of us take to pap without the anxiety you are experiencing; others live with it for years.
The health benefits of this therapy are massive. You would be well advised to keep trying.
If needed, you can ask your doctor for an anti-anxiety med to use temporarily.
The pressure will not hurt you--they use this stuff on newborns!

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
My understanding is that during the sleep study they prescribe the pressure that eliminates snoring on your back. So, in theory you should be able to sleep obstruction free on a lower pressure sleeping exclusively on your side or elevated to start getting used to the pressure. You will, eventually, get used to the pressure and then you could increase it gradually to your prescribed setting.
Like was already mentioned, someone will probably buy your machine but we all know the better approach here is to help you get uses to it.

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
Darn it guys...I was just going to offer to buy the machine for $10 over what secondwind would offer...wanted to get a steal of a deal.
Joking aside...I am glad you are willing to try again. Start with the lower pressures...use the EPR exhale relief to make it even more comfortable. Some therapy is better than no therapy and you might not need that high of a pressure all night anyway.
Might not be ideal but it would sure beat using nothing.
Get the software in place so you can monitor things...Sleepyhead will work with your machine and I have links in my signature for where to get, how to install and use and understand what you see...just start reading.
I can get you pointed to ResMed's ResScan if you wish but SleepyHead is a bit easier to manage when first starting out.

I already have 2 identical S9 AutoSets, so I am not interested in acquiring another.
But, I had thought the same thing.
Someone who wants / needs an AutoSet could do exactly that.
What amount do you think Secondwind would offer?
Someone here who wants it could offer even more than $10 over Secondwind & probably still get a great deal.
But, like everyone else, I also think just putting a little more effort into making it work would be the best choice for shadowraidtech .

Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
Tried it again on 8 & then 4 cm. Same thing: an hour or 2 into sleep I feel an incredibly intense pressure in my skull and feel the need to immediately rip off my mask.
Indeed I do snore on my back, but I'm 99% a side sleeper. I was on my back during the whole sleep study due to the nodes attached to me. And the only time I sleep on my back anyway is of a morning when I'm laying there waiting for myself to full wake up and I accidentally doze off again.
I have a feeling it's got something to do with my sinuses and allergies. I'm a severe case in that regard unfortunately.
At the very least, since my deviated septum was fixed earlier this winter, my energy has improved greatly despite not being able to use the CPAP as well. Prior to my surgery I couldn't function I was so tired. Now, I don't feel the need sleep 24/7 and can get out and take on tasks like exercise again. In fact I've been building a large custom desk recently.
Though, part of me still feels like a CPAP could've allowed to feel even more energized when I wake.
But, with my deviated septum fixed I feel good, some days great. That's miles better then I was anyway.
Guess I shall sell it to some one who needs it for cheaper than a new one and can probably use it where as I apparently cannot.
My asking price I guess for everything is $550. $350 for just the machine, the humidifier and the power cable. Includes shipping as I plan to get a USPS flat rate box to put everything in if it will fit safely.

Hello, tell me please (because i did not understand exactly), it is a CPAP or an Auto CPAP ?shadowraidtech wrote: My asking price I guess for everything is $550. $350 for just the machine, the humidifier and the power cable. Re: Looking to sell my CPAP
It is the S9 AutoSet...it has cpap mode AND apap mode. So like 2 machines in one.adin67 wrote: Hello, tell me please (because i did not understand exactly), it is a CPAP or an Auto CPAP ?
Technically an APAP machine is a cpap machine but it just offers the additional auto adjusting mode along with cpap mode.
It's what you are looking for if that is what you are wondering.
We refer to this model as an APAP machine because of the auto adjusting pressure mode.
