New machine questions

Post by KBee » Fri Mar 14, 2014 12:49 pm

I just got a new machine a Remstar A-Flex One System yesterday. How do I tell the pressure setting? I'm not sure they have it correctly set because my brain is not as clear as it was with the machine I took home for a sleep stuy. I'm wondering does the setting even matter, since it can go from 4-20? I'm just not sure how this thing works.

They only gave me one filter, is it ok to use a hair dryer to speed the drying? Or should I use the really old filters I have while the new one is air drying?

Thanks for your help, I'm having trouble getting through to Kaiser's Sleep Center. I have to say Healthnet was so much better when I got my old machine. Kaiser doesn't seem to give a damn.

When you turn the machine ON (and don't press the ramp) the machine's LCD will show you what pressure it is blowing at. If you're in Auto mode, it will show you the minimum pressure setting. If you're in CPAP mode, it will show you the fixed pressure setting.

To figure out which mode you're in, check out whether A-flex or C-flex is the option in the upper right corner of the LCD. A-Flex is for Auto mode; C-Flex is for CPAP mode.

Beyond that, you need to be in the clinical set up menu to really tell how the machine is set up. To get into the clinical menu, you need to get the clinical manual. You can do that by wandering over to apneaboard.com and registering over there and following the appropriate links.

Most people are NOT particularly comfortable running in wide open Auto mode. If your therapeutic pressure is 10cm or more, it can simply take the machine too long to respond to events if the min setting is 4cm. Moreover, some people are not particularly comfortable breathing at 4cm of pressure.

Let's get your profile equipment selections fixed....the humidifier you have chosen hasn't been used since 2007.
Your machine choice isn't even showing up at all. Some of the links are broken so you may have chosen one of those by mistake.

Let's figure out exactly which machine you are using first.
Look on the bottom of the blower unit and tell us the 3 digit model number...might have DS or REF in front of the 3 digits.
If AFlex is mentioned on the blower unit then that likely means either a 550 or 560 machine.

It makes a difference which model you have as to what some options might be and also which provider manual to request at the apneaboard...or I can send you the one you need once I know which one it is.

Your humidifier choice will be either
PR System One Heated Humidifier (model 550) or
PR System One 60 Series heated humidifier with heated tube (even if you don't happen to have the heated hose because that is an option) the model 560 is the 60 series machine...that's why the 60 in the model name.

The blower unit...if you see model 560 then the correct machine choice will be
PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP machine.

If you have a 550..that link is maybe broken but it is simply a PR System One Auto CPAP with AFlex

One filter? The black/gray foam filter? Normally the machine comes supplied with 2 of those and a white fine disposable filter. The foam filter can be washed...the white fine filter cannot be washed.
If you only have the 1 foam filter and want to wash it...just press it dry between a towel in the AM and by evening it will be dry. It only needs to be washed maybe once a month or so anyway.

You should be able to get extra filters (both foam and disposable) from whomever supplied your equipment but they are available online in bulk if you want to go that way and they don't cost much.
