Besk mask for sleeping on your side/stomach?

Post by dllfo » Thu Jun 01, 2006 9:28 am

OK..I am convinced. Sleeping on my back is NOT an option. Takes too much
morphine to override my lower back/hip issues.

Sooooooooo I have the Mirage Swift and I like it a lot, but it leaks when I am on my side. I have moved my pillow, I have used two pillows. I have used 4 pillows in various configurations. And sleeping on my stomach with it did not seem to work.

I have had a couple of masks suggested, but thought I might ask what most of you are using.

Also, I have pulled my hose off the humidifier a few times in my first few weeks using it. I have the 6 ft hose, if I went to the ten foot hose...???

Thanks......

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Dave,

I'm not a stomach-sleeper, but I do like my UMFF for side-sleeping. AND, this is the only mask I've ever had, so I can't comment on others.

Good luck with your selection.

I am a hardcore stomach sleeper so maybe I can help. I LOVE the Aura for sleeping on my stomach. I have no leaks, no movement etc. I did however use the rubberband trick that was suggested by rested gal? I am sure if you do a search for it you will find it. I am currently trying to break myself into a Comfort Lite 2 because I like the idea of nothing touching my face. I think this is going to take a while. Hope this helps.

Just a comment on my part You did not say what size nasal pillows you are using with your Swift.

I also use the Swift usually about 3 out of 5 nights. When I first started to use the Swift I was sure that the medium size pillows were the way I should go. After using the mediums for a couple of weeks with leaks I tried the large pillows even though they seemed to be too large. It cured my leaks so I can sleep on my back or side usually with no problems.

I also have read a lot of good comments about the Comfort Lite2 which I also have. For me it has very comfortable head gear but I have had no luck wearing the nasal pillows without very sore nares. I have tried the simple cushions and have a more comfortable fit with those but I wake up with leaks as I move around and it seams the simple cushions are a lot noisier than nasal pillows. But read into that what you will, I know I am extremely sensitive to any sound while I am sleeping.

Dale

Swift

Post by GoofyUT » Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:09 am

I use the Mirage Swift with large pillows and consistently sleep on my side with NO PROBLEMS. I'm blessed in that I sleep on my left side consistently and don't move around a lot. So, after I read or watch television for awhile with the Swift on, I turn to my left side (at that point I'm asleep less than one minute later), I do a final adjustment of the pillows/headgear and that's it! I'm asleep for the night.

So, don't give up on the Swift! I also have a F&P HC431A, and tried a Mirage Activa, but the Swift is my constant, loyal and true buddy!

As Idahagal said, the Aura Headrest is THE ONE to get for stomach sleepers. For any position of sleeping as a matter of fact. Rested Gal has also stated this many times in this forum.

But, you will have to "tweak" the Aura to make the pillows more stable over the nares. Some people use the "rubber band trick". Many of us simply use the "panty hose strap". You will also need the Aussie heated hose to help prevent rainout - if you don't have one already.

I've tried both the Aura and the Swift. The pillows of the Aura are softer, more pliable, and don't seem to lose the seal like the Swift (in my case). With the Aura, you can snuggle down into your pillow and they don't move or lose seal. Also, the Aura vents up near your forehead, so you don't block the vent holes with the pillow or covers.

Good luck with whatever you try.

Side sleeper here and I have two masks on rotation. The Comfort Lite 2 and the Activa. I seem to be able to keep seals on both no matter how much I burry my head into the pillow. If i do get leaks with my Activa I just burrow my nose into it further and stop all leaks.

It did take time with both to get the straps just right.

I am a side sleeper and consistent Swift user. It works for me if I am very careful in tensioning the headgear "just right" and rotating the barrel "just right". Finding "just right" took some time and every so often I lose it but it comes back. If you are breaking the seal by imposing sideways pressure against the pillow I find that tightening the lower straps just a tad seems to make it go away. I recommend pillows one size larger than feels exactly right at first.

So David, did you give up on the Aura entirely? What was your chief complaint?

I'm keeping it in rotation but not as an everyday interface. I began to suspect that it did not exhaust CO2 thoroughly enough for me. After 4, 5 or 6 days straight I would start to feel crummy with headaches in the morning and sleeping very lightly. I hate to give up on it since it is so comfortable so I may use it every so often. I also wonder if I am very sensitive to trying to sleep with something on my head. It doesn't feel secure. I struggle with the CL2 because of this. If I get courageous I may try RG's deconstruction on the Headrest. A/C season has rainout being a real problem with both interfaces (Headrest & CL2), double insulated heated hose, insulated small hoses etc., HH on 1 and I still get water.

The Swift seems to be the best for me now. I tried the Activa and liked it but my skin seems to have become very sensitive as I get older (both my parents were bothered with psoraisis) and just one night on the Activa and the Flexifit 407 (which worked surprisingly well for me) had me breaking out with Rosacea pimples. Ain't this just a blast?!

I manage to keep the leaks to a minimum with the Swift even with my side sleeping, PADACHEEKs keep the marking manageable, the headgear feels very secure, the exhaust is jet like so no CO2 worries and I feel better on the Swift.

Thanks for asking.

I have a Swift, Activa, UMFF, and a Comfortlite 2. The Comforlite 2 and Activa are both excellent for side sleeping. Especially if you go from side to side.

The activa is great for side sleeping as stated by other posters but I can't say how well it would do for stomach sleeping. The UMFF is also not bad for side sleeping. I am a side to side sleeper all night long.

Just to make it more complicated, I'm a side sleeper and get on well with the Mirage Vista

So far I'm pretty happy with the Ultra Mirage II nose mask. After this first month is over with and my Dr. convinces the ins co to keep the machine, I'd like to branch out to some different masks. But, all things considered, I'm not in a big hurry.

Believe it or not I have found that the LOOSER I make the straps, the LOWER my leak rates are! The only thing that I have found is that sometimes the elbow connector is in the 'down' position when I flip over, and occasionallly I wake up to move it in a different direction. Other than that, I have no problems with it...
