What kind of cpap machine should I buy?

Hi all. I am using a quattro air full mask with a Respironics System One Auto CPAP and Humidifier. I am getting near the end of my trial period and have come to the conclusion that I am feeling a bit more rested with the machine. The company I am doing the trial through says a machine through them costs some insane amount like 1800 dollars. I am thinking of just buying the mask that I used during the trial assuming they charge me less than 100 dollars in excess of the 175 dollar trial fee and then getting my own machine through a website like http://www.secondwindcpap.com/Used_CPAP.html. They sell new factory sealed devilbliss cpap machines with humidifier and CFlex for 395 plus tax. It comes with a 5 year warranty which makes me feel comfortable. I'm not sure I'd like a machine that is a 100-200 dollars cheaper with a 6 month warranty that was used. Is there a reason such a machine would be a bad choice?

It would be unless you either sprung for the module and software as well, for more money, or else decided to continue on without being able to track ongoing parameters of your progress. If you have no interest in knowing why, for instance, you might feel bad over a given week (and therefore have some idea how to fix it), then any old machine would do, but if you want to be 'part of the solution', then get something with complete data capability. I think it's an excellent machine though may not track a few things as completely as the S9 Autoset (or your current machine) does, but does enough for me as I have had very few problems and no big changes over time.

You want to be chintzy with your health and your life? This machine will help you breathe for one-third (8 hrs of 24) of your life.

I am sure you are spending plenty of money on trivial stuff every week. Forego this for a while to pay for a good machine.

I recommend ResMed AutoSet S9 with heated humidifier. Then you can download the manufacturer's reliable software for free and you are ready to go.

Nothing wrong with a used machine from secondwind. In the rare case you would have a problem, they would make it right for you quickly.

Get a new open box machine from secondwind if the shorter warranty period bugs you.

Trust us...you want the availability of the data to evaluate your therapy....if for nothing else for leak management.
You may not think you want it now and you may not need it but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

By the time you add the extra module for the Devilbiss needed to use the software and buy the software your costs would be right up there with one of the machines that doesn't need anything extra to get the available data.
Besides...the PR S1 Auto like you are trialing or the S9 Autoset offers a little more comprehensive data than the Devilbiss does.

The PR System one 60 Series Auto CPAP model number 560 includes the humidifier...top of the line PR S1cpap/apap and comes with 2 year warranty.. is $549 and if you want the heated hose option that is available in a conversion which is easily found for $75

They have a S9 AutoSet with humidifier new open box for $799 which includes the Climateline heated hose.

You can get the PR System One Auto CPAP model 550 (no heated hose options) with humidifier for $499.
Speaking from personal experience...there are some definite advantages to having the heated hose that is integrated with the machine. Makes the customization of humidity and air temp needs so much easier. While not the end of the world not to have it....it sure comes in handy.
