Sleepless with my CPAP
Sleepless with my CPAP
Tonight is night one with my CPAP. Was so excited. Wore my mask for a while while watching the Olympics and did not feel stressed. Took 1/2 ambien and decided to go for it. Managed 1.5 hours of very restless sleep before I gave up and went to the kitchen for a snack and sip of water. Stomach is cramping and so distended. Cannot walk upright. Knew this could happen so I sipped on sprite and ate a few crackers and walked around for a bit.
Back in bed now with my CPAP. Just don't have much hope that I am going to get much sleep tonight.
Goodnight. Just needed to vent a bit before trying this again.
Sweet dreams everyone.

Re: Sleepless with my CPAP
I don't think your first-night experience is much different from most of us here in the forum. It sure as heck isn't natural to have a machine forcing air into your head. Hehe.
It's been almost 5 years for me, and I cannot say exactly how my first night was. Once I got accustomed to the mask and got the settings and fit dialed in, though, it was such an incredible difference. Everyone is different, and great advice that 10 people agree on may not work well for you. The one thing that is consistent though is to not give up on the machine.
I'm anxious about my first visit to the sleep doc tomorrow since getting my S9 auto set. My numbers are not what I expected when it comes to central events, so I'm going to have a tough time getting to sleep. Plus I get to buy a new set of tires for the wife's car tomorrow. Maybe that's what is bugging me the most.

Why would buying tires bug you?bighead wrote: I get to buy a new set of tires for the wife's car tomorrow. Maybe that's what is bugging me the most.

Money out the door when it could be avoided. I got my driver's license in high school but she just recently got hers and is still loving the newfound freedom and in the "aggressive new driver" mode I got out of my system years ago.ubnoxus wrote:Why would buying tires bug you?bighead wrote: I get to buy a new set of tires for the wife's car tomorrow. Re: Sleepless with my CPAP
Hope you had a better night for sleep number 2. You are one of the ones that seem to have the right attitude to make this therapy work... good for you! Keep at it and you will succeed just like the rest of us hoseheads.okcpa99 wrote:Tonight is night one with my CPAP. Was so excited. I completely agree that attitude and persistence are probably the most important things when it comes to starting and maintaining xPAP therapy.nanwilson wrote:Hope you had a better night for sleep number 2. I was thinking about it last night and came up with a good analogy. It may or may not be accurate but it sounds good: launching a deep space probe, there's a trajectory calculated to 'slingshot' around planets and such to reach the destination, but there are always minor course corrections along the way.
Because there are so many variables with CPAP therapy, it's vital to talk with your doctor and DME especially when things change. Arming yourself with as much information from your equipment will make it easier for them to provide guidance and informed input when tinkering with little things on your own isn't getting good results. There's a reason the guys at JPL are still running the Voyager missions, and your doctor should be able to give better feedback than even the most knowledgeable and experienced forum jockeys.
The tl;dr version: CPAP is a process, not a cure.

Re: Sleepless with my CPAP
It will get better. Give it time. The worst thing you can do is give up on it.
Re: Sleepless with my CPAP
I have yet to outgrow that, I go thru numerous sets of tires a year on my toys lolbighead wrote: "aggressive new driver".

I think that you actually got SOME SLEEP in your first short trial is a very good sign.
Keep at it. It gets easier.
