F&P Icon Auto Humdifier always on?

Post by Uncle_Bob » Mon Feb 10, 2014 1:06 pm

I notice when i come home from work and go to top off my F&P Icon humidifier that the water is still very warm and the chamber is humid.
Is this normal? Is the humidifier in some sort of operation if the unit is plugged in? Or do i have a defective machine?
I suppose i could just leave it be for a few days, use one of my backup machines and see if the water in my Icon gets used up.
There is no way the water would be that warm after 10 hours of not being used.

Nice to know that I'm coming up to my 5th anniversary on CPAP and I'm still having issues

On the F&P Icon you'll notice there is no converter brick in the power cord like you'd find on other brands such as ResMed - - you just have a straight power cord; that's because the power converter is built inside the Icon unit itself and it is under the Humidifier tub......so when the machine is plugged in to the wall outlet the built-in power converter will stay warm to the touch, which will in turn keep the water in the tub warm. I acctually like this feature because you don't have a bulky power cord "brick" to lug around when you travel, and I like the water in the humidifier tub to be warm before I start my PAP therapy, so in my mind this system kills two birds with one stone.

The power-gobbling "wall warts" are slowly being phased out;
but in the meantime, somebody creative uses the "feature".
Cool!

I agree its nice to start of with humidity if that's how you roll, I use the preheat button on my S9 when i use that machine.
It seems like you are forced to have a certain humidity level with the Icon. Thats is not good news if you like cool pass over humidification.

Anyway glad to hear its normal, thanks

You can set humidity to zero, and not put water in the chamber. You must leave the chamber in the unit because it won't work.

yes i noticed that the chamber must stay in. I'm also wondering if its possible to take apart the connection between the chamber at the elbow leading out of the machine for cleaning?

Yes, the elbow snaps out of the machine for cleaning
