I haven't seen anything on dust mites here. They can cause major sinus congestion and fatigue, and I have a lot of experience with them. Prior to my discovering I had sleep apnea, addressing dust mites easily made the biggest improvement in my fatigue.
They can definitely aggravate sleep apnea. The filters on CPAP machines should help, but why not go the extra mile just to make sure you eliminate them from your environment? And remember to change those filters often!
Dust mites are microscopic creatures that live on dust. Their excrement is a major allergen.
Do you sneeze or feel fatigued when dusting or when doing the laundry? Dust mites are a very likely culprit. (In the laundry, the main source is the lint traps in the drier.)
Do you notice that a significant layer of dust appears on your furniture if you don't dust for a while? The same dust is accumulating in your bedding, but you can't see it! Even worse, this dust is just inches from your nose and mouth while you sleep.
There's a lot of confusing information out there, but getting rid of them really isn't that hard. Wash all bedding often including blankets. You can get dust mite proof mattress encasements online or at upscales stores like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
You can also get pillow encasements. If you have these, then you only have to wash these and not the pillows themselves.
You don't need a hepa vacuum. These are very expensive. Instead, you can use dust mite proof vacuum bags on your regular vacuum.
If you vacuum and you still see a lot of dust in the air, you may be kicking up the dust when you walk on the carpets. It may be time to have them steam cleaned.
This just might help your congestion and help you get a good night's sleep!
