Nasal Mask leak issues
Nasal Mask leak issues
Hi Everyone, I'm new to world of CPAP (and online forums!). Well actually, my Husband is. So, I'm wondering if anybody can help. He currently has a Resmed Mirage FX Nasal Mask. The mask fits well with no leaks around the cushion, however when he is lying down if he moves his head downwards (chin towards his chest), a lot of air leaks out of the vents. There is no leak (well, nothing audible) when he puts his head upwards, just when he lowers it (both while lying on his side). Does anybody have any ideas why this would be happening? I hope it makes sense!
Re: Nasal Mask leak issues
Air is supposed to come out of the vents. That is air exhausting the CO2. That is a good leak, Bad leaks come from around the mask seal. Also leaks can be from exhaling through his mouth or between his lips.

Re: Nasal Mask leak issues
Some people wear a soft, small, cotton batten cervical collar overnight to keep their head up because it also prevents many apneas... you can get one at the pharmacy.
Re: Nasal Mask leak issues
That is very interesting because I put a small square firm cushion under my chin to keep it up as well as use a chin strap. I now have very low leaks and very low AHI.
Re: Nasal Mask leak issues
Sounds as if you are just hearing the venting air hitting the sheets to me. Most of my minor leaking around the FX can be fixed with some Lansanoh (SP?) cream.
