Tales from the DME - Aerocare

Post by Hogsrul » Thu Jan 09, 2014 3:41 pm

You can't make this stuff up..

So, I go to Aerocare in Phoenix to get the FX Nano mask, because I was curious if it was better than the pillow. The person there helping said, "Oh, you're in luck! The sales rep just left us this one and it's free!!" I walk out with a receipt showing I paid over $150 for it through insurance, so it was only free for Aerocare.

Upon calling back to say I did not like the mask, I was told that I could not exchange it but they would be glad to send me 5 Swift FX Pillows for $250, with insurance covering $127 of that. I said, "Can't I just bring this mask that I won't be using back and get the pillows instead? After all, the mask was free, remember?" She then goes on to tell me that the mask that was just dropped off by the sales rep was actually put into their inventory so they couldn't do that and would have to charge me.

I said, "Well, I see FX Pillows on Amazon for $19 each!!! I think I will be buying them from there from now on!"

No wonder our private insurance is so freakin' high!

Hmmm, one could contact the manufacturer to ask if the "sample" mask was supposed to be sold--with no return allowed.

I have been due a new mask as of mid December. I bought the Nano a few months ago and liked it so I requested one from American Home Patient. They told me they didn't carry that one so I said that I would just buy another one on line if they couldnt supply the one I wanted. Í called my insurance and they are now in limbo while they are changing over from Lovelace to BCBS. I have been with them as of April and I was only able to get one mask covered.
