Water problems

Post by justminick423 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:09 am

Every night I fill my water bin with distilled water and to the correct spot. I woke up last night to adjust my mask and when I did a bunch of water spat out onto my face - I mean a lot. Does anyone know why this would happen, especially after several hours of usage ( and subsequently drainage of my water supply )?

It sounds like rain out. Condensation that builds up in the hose and ends up in the mask.

There are several things you can do to reduce/eliminate it.

If you have a heated hose, that will usually prevent it. If you don't have a heated hose, you can make a hose cozy to help. Also, make sure that your machine is lower than the level of your head, so that any water will drain back toward the humidifier and not toward your face.

If you tell us more info, we can help more. What machine do you have? What mask are you using? Do you have a heated hose?

Thank you! I use a Quattro mask and a resmed machine. My hose is not heated. Is a cozy simply insulation? My father is a plumber so I am sure I could grab some correct size pipe insulation from him. Unless I am wrong. Also, would I cut them into small pieces for bending or?

Which Resmed machine do you have? You can probably get a climateline hose which is heated. Hose cozy is usually material like fleece. Or socks. It keeps the hose warmer and stays flexible and comfortable.

It appears to be simply the resmed auto set - hoping there are no hidden model numbers haha. Thank you for the advice - so helpful!

As long as your machine is in the S9 series (sounds like you have the S9 Autoset-- https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... chine.html )
the Climateline heated hose will work. Big, big help with avoiding rainout: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ntrol.html

Sounds like the S9 autoset. Ask your DME for a climateline hose as you are having rainout. What is really nice is that you can then adjust the humidity manually with the level of humidity and the temperature separately. I usually keep my humidity the same, but I change the temp as I like it cooler in the summer and not so cold in the winter.

The model #'s are underneath the machine... but empty the humidifier before tipping it over or youi'll drown it!

Does the blower unit of your machine look like this:

or this:

If your machine is the silver one that's on top, you have an S9 and the ClimateLine hose will work.

If your machine is the cream and blue on that's on bottom, you have an S8 and the ClimateLine hose will NOT work.

Just for future reference you can add your machine, humidifier & mask to your profile, so it will appear below each of your posts. Makes it handy for everyone when helping with a question/problem.
