stoopid humidifier.
yup, like the title states for some friggin' reason my humidifier turned itself off last night, lol, i woke up this morning to get ready for work and noticed my humidifier was off when i know for a fact that i turned it on before i went to bed last night, good thing was for once no rainout, but man is my throat bugging me, not as bad as this morning when i got up, but still it makes me wonder if it's gonna do it again tonight, any ideas?
i know it's prolly been discussed before but the search function digs up only about a million posts and i don't wanna have to sift through them all. i had it set on 3 just to see if i could find my comfort zone, since 1 didn't help much and 2 was just a little better,
i doubt i would of reached over and hit the heat button, but who knows? heck maybe my curious cat may have been checking the machine out while i was asleep, he has turned it on before while i was at work. i came home to see my machine efficiently air drying the humidifier chamber, lol, anyways, i will await your replies. TIA.

i seem to recall from one of the millions of posts that the Remstar humidifier will shut off when your unit shuts off and not come back on when your unit does . So if the power went out for even a litle bit of time your machine comes back on but the humidfier doesn't. Also if you turn the APAP off to make a nocturnal pit stop you ahve to turn the humidifier back on. Ofcourse not a problem for us non-cflexing Resmed folks.

Check to see if your cpap is set for auto-off. If the cpap detects a large leak, such as taking your mask off, it will automatically turn the cpap off. When you start breathing into the cpap again, it will turn back on automatically due to the auto-on, but not turn the humidifier back on. I had that problem, and changing the auto-off setting did the trick.
Mike is right, anytime the cpap is turned off, the humidifier is turned off and needs to be turned on again. If you are pre-heating your humidifier, it will turn off after 20 minutes, so make sure that it is on before you go to bed.

yeah i have it set for auto off since my cat has turned it on in the past while i was at work, and i usually don't have to do any night time pit stops any more since i started my therapy, usually when i have to, i just take the mask off and run to the bathroom and be back in the mask before it shuts off, it will only have started the audible warning tone by then,
i dunno about a power failure though, vcr wasn't doing the blinky 12:00 thing, it's gonna bug the crap outta me tonight, now i'm gonna have to check it periodically through the night, just to make sure it doesn't happen again cause i'm not kidding, my throat was hurting pretty bad.

Sometimes even a quick flick of the power won't trigger your VCR to give you that dreaded flashing 12:00 but to motor or heater circuits it will cause a dropout. Sometimes even a brown out condition will be enough to turn the machine off. The auto-off mode was a good catch by Sleepy Dog Lover and it may be the culprit in this mystery.

Possibly your other poster is right and no animals were guilty? I'd hate to blame the innocent.....Once or twice (come to think of it, last was during a big thunderstorm) I've woken to find my humidifier taking a holiday....and couldn't blame the four-footed denizens of my abode, simply because the bedroom is of bounds to one and all.......My inner sanctum where even the cats dare not tread.
og dare not tread......

well i guess that it may have been a power flicker that turned it off, i tried to wake up enough to check it through the night but it was a lost battle, i slept so hard i couldn't wake up until my usual wake up time, lol, and it was still on when i awoke, and man what a difference, i think setting 3 is gonna be a keeper, was very comfy, too bad it used up almost all the water in the humidifier though, and the rainout reared it's ugly head again, can't wait for my hose covers that offerrocker is making me, thanks all.

They weigh only 6 oz, I placed them in a "TYVEK" envelope. Let me know how you like them. Oh, and your cat will most likely like 'em too! Very soft !

If you live in an area where you get the occasional power flicker, you could use one of these...

It's an APC Back-UPS (battery back up and surge protector). You use it on your computer so it won't crash if you have a power flicker or it goes out all together. It'll keep your unit running if your power blinks or goes out all together for at least 10 minutes... probably longer with just the CPAP running on it.
You can find them at most computer stores. Now that I think about it, I'm going to go out and pick one of them up. We live near the edge of the power grid and occasionally get spikes and flickers. I think they're around $40 or so... not bad for a little extra insurance.
