Blue Cross and Blue Shield bought out my insurance company

Post by Stormynights » Mon Dec 30, 2013 5:21 pm

I have been on Medicare and had a policy with Lovelace HMO since April. I have been very pleased with my coverage but I just got a call today that they have been bought out by BCBS. I am not sure I am happy about that.

Why not? It's probably a bigger network and if you travel there will likely be more doctors that accept Blue Cross.

At the end of the day it's just trading one middleman for another.

My insurance through the company I retired from is with Lovelace and BCBSNM is taking over. I was with BCBSNM a few years ago and then my company switched to Lovelace. Some things with BCBSNM were better some worse, but overall about equal. Since the buyout I have been able to return to some really good doctors I had until Lovelace and Albuquerque Health Partners had a big spat over a year ago. I'm glad to get my old doctors back, especially my sleep doc.

Stormy, I have a Blue Cross Plan D supplement to Medicare and it is really good. I'm sure glad obamacare didn't screw this up like everything else they've touched.

I was told there wouldn't be any changes to my plan until 2014. That is 2 days away. I researched for over a month before I signed up with LL but I don't have any time or choice in this matter. I am sure I am over thinking this but I don't like changing things when I am happy with what I have.

I have BCBS for my medigap (5+yrs) & happy with it so far.

Yes 2 days is not enough TIME for anyone to make anything but a very very hasty choice.

I say stick it out, see how you like it, better than nothing, right? Towards next year you should have a chance to make an informed choice.

PS for me BCBS has been far better than what I had before, but they were downright horrible!

I guess I was very spoiled by my old insurance. The lady from my insurance would call me and ask if I needed anything. I know that will go away. I got a new Tens unit delivered Christmas Eve and today a man called and told me to send it back because my insurance wouldn't pay for it. I called her and she said they never filed a claim for it. I waited all day for a all back from Empi. I guess I will wait again tomorrow.
