Surgery done
Had turbinate reduction and septum surgery yesterday
My 30 min surgery turned into 2 hours. People that want to know it Hurts.
Day of surgery it is hard to breath throat is in killer pain and blood down your throat and nose will make you very sick. Well did me
Day 1 after surgery throat is 75% better and off all pain meds. Feel weak from blood lose but breathing is already better.
Now I can't say I don't need Cpap as I can't use it for a week but I didn't sleep last night can't say it's from no cpap I'm gonna say it was pain. Lol.

Re: Surgery done
what does deviated septum mean?
Re: Surgery done
The septum is in your nose if it is deviated to bad can really effect breathing and sleep. Causing sinus pain and other problems.

Can a primary care doctor look in the nose and see that or does it require more vigorous testing?Gottop69 wrote:The septum is in your nose if it is deviated to bad can really effect breathing and sleep. Causing sinus pain and other problems.
Re: Surgery done
I had to go to ent. My normal GP just put me on tons of meds. Ent said GP was really messing me up with all the meds. So needless to say I got a new GP now.
Re: Surgery done
The septum is the cartilage that runs down the middle of your nose and separates your nasal passages. If the septum is deviated it will cause you problems in breathing through the side on which the deviation occurs. It can be caused by trauma or you can be born with it. In my case it was as a result of a hockey injury. Bone and cartilage was removed from one side to even out the air flow through both nostrils. A very painful procedure in a lot of ways but I do notice a big improvement in being able to breath through my nose, especially at night when sleeping.Ruinednose wrote:what does deviated septum mean?

Re: Surgery done
Been there, done both of those and have the tee-shirt to prove it, as the old hipsters used to say (that would be me ). Mine was 15 years ago in the bad old days. I'm still get nightmares about it. If you have any problems don't try to 'tough it out', that only leads to more pain and more healing time. Not to alarm you but my septum never really did get totally straightened out so I still use these little devices:

Amazon sells them, they are called Snorepin (granted, stupid name) They do fit more comfortably with with a light smearing of Lansinoh ointment. I find that they require a little tape to secure them... ask me if you want to know how to do that task:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Surgery done
I have those to. My septum shows to have grown to long causing pain and migraines. Was also so deviated doctor said no way I would have ever been right. They never caught it cause I smoked and it shrinks the turbinates.
I am happy I had it done so far. The doctor that did mine owns major shares in the hospital so that makes me feel good.
On a side note they use no splints or packing anymore. Talked with 3 ent said makes heeling process better.

Re: Surgery done
Are those nose pins "snore pins" good to use on someone without deviated septum? i like to use Breathe right just for basic congestion.

I'd suggest you give them a try. As you can see on the link, they are not very expensive at all, plus you get two in the pack.
They take a few nights to get used to the feeling in your nose, plus it's best if you secure them with a little strip of tape or they will slide out as the night proceeds. Despite these small problems, IMO they work better than BreatheRite strips (which I also use occasionally). In the long run, it's nice to have two options for opening your nostrils - if one method irritates you and you need to give it a rest, use the other until things heal up.
