Newbie with a Question

Post by Chiefswife » Fri Dec 13, 2013 7:55 pm

Hi all. I am new here and new to the CPAP machine. So new in fact my first night on it was last night. My first night with the machine was great compared to some of the others that I have read about on these boards. My numbers were great and I was able to use it for a bit over 7 hours. Really there was nothing to complain about except the air. It was cold. I have my heated humidifier all the way up at 5 and it still felt cold. My question is this: Does anyone know if there is a, I guess it would be kit or something that I can buy to change my humidifier port to use heated tubing? I know from looking in my book that there is an optional heated tube but I can't seem to find it. Also, does having the heated tubing help? I have covered the tube in fleece for tonight to see if that helps any.

depends if you have the 50 model or the 60 model... do you know which? (last 2 numbers of your model number)

50 model you'd have to get something like the Hybernite
60 model you get the add on

You have the 60 series machine??? Exact model number is on the bottom of the blower unit if you are unsure. Model 560 for the Auto CPAP model.
Here's the upgrade kit if you do.

It works great...I upgraded my 60 series machine with it.

If you have the 50 series (model 550) it won't work and you will have to do something else.

I know what you mean about the cold air...even with max setting. The default setting for the humidifier without the heated hose doesn't warm the air up very much and if you like a cold bedroom (like I do) then you get what I called "ice cube nose" and it was cold enough to wake me often and was very uncomfortable.
You can change it to Classic Mode (setting in the clinical setup menu) and it will warm the air a little better but the chance of rain out also increases.

If you do happen to have a 50 series machine...get the Hybernite 2300 heated hose if the hose cozy or Classic mode isn't enough warmth. It works great and I used it with my 50 series machine until I got my 60 series machine.

I have a heated hose that I got from Australia before you could buy them in the US. Works great. I don't use any humidity, but just the increased temperature improves the comfort.

I just looked for the australian hose in the U.S. and could only find the sleep zone site in Oz - could you tell me where in the US to get them?

I tent camp a lot in Oct. & Nov. in Colorado and Wyoming hunting camps. I've found that if I pull as much hose as possible in my sleeping bag that it warms the 20-30 degree ambient air and gives the impression of humidity. I do the same thing at home. Granted, the hose works it's way out but the process gets me to sleep. I know a lot of people have hangers. etc. to keep the hose out of the covers but this works for me. I found that fleece sleeves made the hose too heavy and cocked the mask so it wouldn't seal. I've never had occasion to try a heated hose.
