I wish I would have found the forum BEFORE I got my CPAP!!!

This forum is awesome and I sure wish I would have found it BEFORE I got my CPAP!!! It would be so much easier "if only I knew then, what I know now."

I have only had my CPAP (PR System One Series 60 - DS220 with heated humidifier) since 11/4/2013 and have since made one visit, and a few frustrating phone calls, to the DME with less than stellar results. I haven't decided yet whether they are truly not knowledgeable about CPAP treatment and the equipment they sell, or whether it is just more convenient to "pretend" in hopes that I will give up and go away.

After less than 2 weeks of use I noticed that even on the highest humidifier setting, the air seemed to blow very cool. I woke up one night because my nasal mask was wet and cold. When I took it off I felt some cold water spritz out of the mask onto my face. I turned off the machine and removed the water tank. The "warmer" part of the humidifier was cold to the touch.

I took the unit into the DME and was told that there wasn't anything wrong with the humidifier. They said the spray of water I felt was because I had the humidifier at the highest setting; and the humidifier was not heating because it "sensed" that there was already enough moisture in the air.

Frustrated, I searched and found this forum where others also reported not being satisfied with the humidifier's lack of warmth and moisture. Some said they found the "Classic" mode to be helpful. I find the Classic mode to be better, but still not great.

I also read about the "optional heated hose" but wasn't sure if that would work with my unit (DS220) or not. When I called the DME to ask if the heated hose option would work with my unit, he proceeded to tell me that "wasn't necessary with my unit because... blah, blah, blah..." I pointed out to him that it clearly mentions the "optional heated hose" in the booklet that came with it, and I just wanted to verify that doesn't apply to only "some models", but not the DS220. He finally told me he would have to check with the sales rep. *sigh*

Frustrated, again, I searched this forum and found the optional heated hose will work with my unit if I purchase the adapter kit for $75. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-hea ... eviews-tab

Score: DME=0, cpaptalk=2

So, I think in the future I'll save myself the aggravation and just come here first!

And they wonder why there is a 50% drop-out rate ... makes you want to smack some DME's and uninformed doctors upside the head !

I'm glad you're here and are one of the smart ones, star444! Welcome!
