Time for a New Machine-- Which one

Post by Hetron197 » Thu Nov 21, 2013 12:16 pm

I'm maxed out on my insurance and can get a new machine. Choices are: Respironics System One or ResMed S-9
Currently using Respironics System One Model DS250HS. Was wondering whether the ResMed machine would be quieter than the Respironics? I have ResMed S-8 machines as backups. Any comments about either machine from users would be appreciated.

It's a toss up...both brands have minor pros and cons.
I have owned and used both brands...and for me it's a toss up.

Though do make sure that you educate yourself on getting a model of machine that offers more data (assuming you would like to be able to monitor your therapy if ever needed to)...
Your DS250...collects hours of use only...nothing else.

Get a PR System One model 450 or higher if you want to ever see data beyond how many hours of sleep you use the machine.
With the ResMed S9...Avoid anything with Escape in the model name if you think that you might want to see the data.

Now you may not care about data or its availability...and in that case that's your choice but I would be remiss if I didn't mention it just in case you didn't know what was out there.

I just retired my M-series Auto. Replaced it with an S9 Autoset. If noise is a factor, the S9 wins, hands down. I know comparing a new machine with a 5 yr old isn't fair, but I can't even hear the S9.

I also like seeing the night's AHI on the display each morning.

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

The new PR System One Respironics machines (model after Link's M series) are much quieter. I started my therapy with a M series machine. The PR S1 machines are comparable in noise level to the S9 machines. My husband says that the PR S1 is a bit more quiet..says he could faintly hear the S9 but with the PR S1 he has to feel for the air venting to know it's even on.
What I have found for what I hear..a little breathing noise on inhale with the PR S1 and with the S9 I hear a little breathing noise on exhale along with the bird call thing.

Link must have got one without the bird call.
