New mattress HUGE

Post by stickman » Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:43 pm

We had a Stearns & Foster mattress that was stupid-firm (sorry can't remember the model. Is 'stupid-firm' their official description? It should be.) that we have disliked for years but after spending $2k you are stuck with it for a while... Anyway we just bought a new one (another S&F but a little softer...?) and added a talalay (sp?) latex topper (3", medium firm) and I can't believe what a difference it made. For the first time in years I didn't wake up AT ALL.

It was like a revelation. I really can sleep all night WOOT!

Anyway, just thought I would share that lol.
Not a fan of cpap. Just want to wake up tomorrow morning.

When I started on CPAP, I also found that it was more difficult to get comfortable on my mattress, so I started a research effort in that area. I almost purchased a memory foam mattress, but the good ones are expensive. I also tried a Talalay Latex mattress, but the one I was able to try was a bit too soft, as well as expensive. I tried a low-cost memory foam topper, but the smell was too strong, even after two weeks.

I ended up buying a new, firm mattress from Original Mattress Factory. It was pretty good but when sleeping on my side, my hip was a bit sore in the morning from the pressure point. I knew I could be more comfortable. After a bunch of research, I purchased a 3" Talalay latex topper to put on the mattress. I also purchased a fairly think talalay pillow.

It took a few nights to get used to the combination, but now I've very pleased. The latex is a bit more bouncy than the deadening of memory foam, but once you get used to it, I find it works well.
