Post by lyankowy » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:24 am

Which one do I put on first? The Mask or the chinstrap?

I put the chin strap on first. Then the mask.

The instructions that come with my chinstrap say to put the mask on 1st & then the Chinstrap over that.

The head models in the DMEs office that have both on them also show it that way.

When I used the FX everything else went on first and then the chinstrap secured the fit.

I us the quattro fx mask. No matter how I adjusted it I had indentations in my head. When I switched to using the pap cap chin strap first and then the mask. These problems were resolved. If you develop a leak at night it would be harder to adjust the mask when it is under the chinstrap.
But to each their own. What ever works for you is the best way.

You are right when you say "to each their own".

I don't have leak problems.
But, IMHO, the chinstrap worn OVER the mask straps helps to stabilize the mask (i.e. reduces movement) & therefore reduces or even stops leaks.

Just wanted to thank you, Stu for this idea. I have always put my chinstrap on first. But I have been trying to figure out how to get my Wisp nosepiece to stop riding up my nose 3-4 times a night. It was really bugging me because it causes my nostrils to feel cramped, wakes me up and increases my leaks.

The last 3 nights I did as you suggested and put my Ruby chinstrap on last instead of first. Voila! - it keeps my Wisp nosepiece in place and stops it from riding up my nose towards my eyes, lets me sleep uninterrupted and keeps my leaks below the red line in ResScan.

Thanks!

Best wishes, Nate

I wear chinstrap over mask as often remove it when gets uncomfortable having too much stuff wrapped around head. Have headache tonight so just abandoned the Halmark Christmas movie and came to bed. Skipping chinstrap tonight and have ice pack on forehead. No telling where I will find it in the morning. Last night headache so bad had take mask totally off and did it unconsiously apparently. If not for the hose would never have guessed how it got over top of headboard and in the floor. Very seldom I take mask off during night now but last night looked like I had a fight with it before it got pitched as all straps pulled loose and headgear other side of bed. Ice pack, no chinstrap and 1.5 Ambien hopefully have me out soon.
