Can the mask make a difference?

Post by Bill44133 » Mon Nov 11, 2013 8:26 am

While reading my data this morning.. My AHI is 3.XX every Tuesday and Thursday when I am wearing my PMI Probasics Zzz-Mask Full Face. The rest of the week my AHI is 1.XX or lower when I am wearing ComfortGel Blue Full Face Mask or The Quatro Full face mask. I am having lots of Obstructive with The Zzz Mask, but no snoring. Leaks are very minimal most night 0 minutes in large leak, number of 60.3. I realize my AHI number is less then 5 and I feel good after sleeping with any of the masks I just seen what looks like a trend.
Did any one else have this experience?

My AHI doesn't differ much, but since I run on Auto with a range, I have noticed my pressures are higher with full face masks.
So there does seem to be some connection; but it still may only be an individual thing.

Why are you using 3 different masks. Let your face get use to one mask. Pick the one that is the most comfortable and use it for a couple weeks.

I have to agree that a "mask schedule" may not be in your best interests.
Even before I had a really good fitting mask, I would only switch on the spur of the moment,
either because of an impending sore, or because something was just not right, and I couldn't control leaks.
If any mask gives far more comfort than the others, I would not worry about giving the others "equal time",
and feel free to favor one over the rest. Comfort should be the primary consideration--not numbers.
Sometimes the numbers will settle down once your face has.

Different masks have different intentional leaks as well as unintentional leaks on your face. So yes there will be differences, that is why many people have such a hard time finding "their" mask.
You are lucky, you have found three no pick your favorite and stick with that one. Masks are not a fashion accessory, they are a functional part of your treatment.

I still have nights that I can't stand my mask. I will put on my trusty favorite and in a few minutes I am ready to throw it across the room. I then just pull out another mask and try it. I have been known to go through several in one night. This may be due to insomnia. I am just not yet able to settle down to one. Having a selection has kept me compliant.

I thought it was just me. I have been known to pull out one I thought I hated to find it was a favorite on that night.
