Keeping It On?

Post by cpap_challenged » Fri Nov 08, 2013 9:40 am

I put my full mask gear on, go to bed, go to sleep, and then in the middle of the night find the thing laying on the bed next to me. No remembrance whatsoever of the mask coming off. Help? Suggestions?

We're not really responsible for what we do in our sleep. When you wake up with the mask next to you, the correct thing to do is to simply put the mask back on and go back to sleep. Don't let the fact that you took the mask off in your sleep get to you too much in the middle of the night.

As for things you can do to discourage your sleepy unconscious brain from taking the mask off in the first place:

You can try putting a few strategically placed pieces of tape on the mask to tape it to your face. Put the tape where taking the mask off is going to cause the tape to be ripped off of a more tender area of the face. The pain from the tape being pulled off your face may help wake you up enough for you to realize what you're doing so that you can consciously choose to NOT remove the mask before going back to sleep.

You can also try using bobby pins to attach the straps more firmly in your hair making mask removal more difficult for that unconscious, sleepy mind to do.

You can also try sleeping with mittens on your hands to make it harder to take the mask off in your sleep.

It would be easier to help you if we knew what machine and mask you are using..Fill in your equipment profile.

In the upper left CONTROL PANEL under the PROFILE Tab there is EDIT EQUIPMENT.
