Swift FX water build up

Post by epark300 » Sun Oct 27, 2013 10:17 am

Hello.
How do I get the moisture content under control. Use S8 with Swift FX. Humidifier control is on 2. Wake up every morning with a lot of condensation in pillows.
Thanks

Most likely moisture from your exhaled breath is condensing in the pillows. This can happen even with a heated hose (I had some last night myself with my heated hose) especially as the seasons get cooler and our bedroom temps get lower.
You can maybe increase your bedroom temp in an effort to stop the cooling...but for some people warmer bedroom temps don't promote good sleep.

This is what I would suggest to help. After last night I guess I need to go dig mine out and put it on. It does help insulate things so that the air doesn't cool quite so easily and reduces the chance of that cooling releasing the moisture.

I have this same problem w/ my FX, and I use an S9; I think my humidifier is set on 1.5, and the temp is usually 70 degrees. I bought a barrel cozy from padacheek, and it didn't help at all! So I contacted another forum member who uses butcher's string in the mask to soak up the moisture (he's sending pics). Can't wait to try it! I hope it works because nothing else does. Since the moisture is all coming from ME, and settles in my nasal pillows, I don't even think that turning off the humidifier would work!!!

It won't help and that's why I don't recommend reducing or turning the humidifier selection itself. I have read where people not even using a humidifier at all have this very same problem. Lowering the machine won't help the water in the pillow either. Neither will routing the hose overhead...except to maybe let you snort more water because water can't run uphill.
The only way is to keep the air in the nasal pillow from cooling to the point of releasing the moisture it holds.
If you like the temp at 70 degrees...it's already cool and that likely explains why the barrel cozy didn't help you. It can't hold as much moisture because it is cooler to start with.
The people who can use 80 degrees hose air temp...they are going to have more of a chance having the barrel cozy help.

A hose cozy might help some people keep that air in the pillow warmer but I found it didn't help me enough. My first 2 winters using cpap was with a machine that didn't have a heated hose...I battled all sorts of rain out issues those winters and I have tried every possible solution that has ever been mentioned.

I have heard of the people using cotton twine in the pillows. This isn't new and something that was tried back when heated hoses hadn't even been thought of. It doesn't take very much..maybe an inch to 2 inches laying in the barrel to absorb the water so it doesn't go up our nose or out the vent holes giving us a cold shower in the middle of the night..man, I had those cold sprays on the face.

It's been discussed here in the past..here's one thread. There used to be a thread with pictures included. I will see if I can find it and if I do I will add it here.

Edit: Found this..for a different nasal pillow mask though

Aha! You know, I have read so much about rainout but I can never seem to remember the basics. During the winter if your bedroom is cool, keep the humidifier temp higher, and in the summer, when the ambient temps are generally higher, set the humidifier lower - is that the "dumbed down" version? I'll try upping my humidifier temp tonight. I have had it has high as 76 degrees; don't remember if rainout was an issue then. Until I can get the butcher's string thing going, I'll give this a shot, and I'll try to find my new barrel cozy which I have of course misplaced. Thanks Pugsy!

I loved the Swift FX mask but eventually gave up on it because I couldn't stand the way it always felt wet--it became a constant irritation. I tried everything (didn't have a heated hose, but everything else) including the padacheek barrel cozy and the string in the nasal pillows.

I can't sleep unless my room is cold, we don't use heat at night, so there was just no getting around it.
