Review after first week.

Post by Jasonlboyd » Thu Oct 24, 2013 9:27 am

I've had my machine for a week now. So far most nights have gone good and I have woke up feeling much better. I have gotten the heated hose and I have noticed my machine using much more water than before. I have noticed that the heated hose is MUCH heavier than the slim that came with the machine. I have also noticed that I seem to wake up more using the machine. before, I very seldom woke up, but it seems like every time I roll over I wake up because I have to readjust the hose or mask. I have found the best solution for the hose is to run it up and kinda behind my pillow to hold it in place. I will also wake up and have to feel for air escaping my mask to see if the machine is actually on because it's so quiet. I can hear it when I go to bed, but after it gets going it makes no sound at all.

I do have one question about the heated hose/ climate control. I was under the impression that I could set the humidity and the temperature, but my machine only gives me the humidity option (which I have set to 80%). Am I missing something?

Common. We go to bed with a hurricane and wake up to a gentle breeze. The body/brain adjusts and it's a perception thing.

You might benefit from a more structure hose management system...Lots of DIY projects or store bought methods available.

This will pass. It took me a couple of months for it to totally go away.

Yes, missing changing the setting in the clinical setup menu for the ClimateLine from "automatic" to manual/patient.
I am not sure if the video here covers that part but watch it to see
http://www.cpaplibrary.com/machines.html
I forget the exact terms/steps and don't have my S9 anymore to retrace them. Here's the provider manual which should also explain it.
http://www.apneuvereniging.nl/forum/pdf ... manual.pdf

The automatic setting will use more water when compared to your previous slimline hose at the setting of 2 or 3 that you previously used because it tries to deliver a constant 80% humidity...you weren't getting that much humidity with the slimline hose and the other settings.
Also I don't know if your ambient humidity in your home may have changed...the weather is cooler and I am using the furnace now...the ambient air is now drier so any automatic delivery system will use more water even with no change in the settings.
For a while I wasn't using a lot of water with my settings maxed out..now I am using 3/4 of a tank every night.

I went back to the clinical settings after watching the video and got everything set where I could adjust the temp and humidity. I'm still learning, but things are getting better. I had a dr appointment today and found out that I still have a sinus infection lingering around that I've had for a little over 2 months, and have already taken about 5 weeks of antibiotic for so I get another 10 days worth today. Maybe when I get it knocked out things will improve. I do feel that I have done pretty good with the cpap so far, but all the advise here has helped!

I am also on my first week with the CPAP machine, I love the free flow of air and so far no leaks at all. However I wake up about 3 times each night, not because I'm snoring etc, I just wake up!
So far I still feel tired during the day, I'm hoping this will improve.
Any comments?
All the best

1 week is way too soon to expect very much despite what you read about people having overnight miracles..those are actually more rare.
How many hours of sleep are you averaging each night?
Are you using a machine that offers full efficacy data so that you can make sure that the therapy is optimal..at least on paper?
Please register and add your equipment to your profile so we can hopefully point you to software to evaluate your therapy.
If therapy is suboptimal for whatever reason...it's unlikely that you will be able to finally feel better until you fix any problems that you might have.
Problems might be hours of sleep, fragmented sleep (those wake ups), too many apnea events still, meds, mask issues...and the list goes on and on.
Start with evaluating therapy with software because if it is suboptimal..no amount of time will fix that problem.
Never too soon to evaluate therapy.
