Homemade mask cleaning sollution

Post by Crazy Eddie » Mon Oct 21, 2013 9:50 am

What's a good way to clean a cpap mask without the whipes? Preferably using stuff around most households... I know hand soap pretty well doesn't work. Maybe something with baking soda?

I wipe down my masks with just a soft microfiber cloth and plain water. When I do a real wash I use a tiny bit of vinegar to remove the soap scum. I use Woolite on my cloth masks.

These replies are all good. I would just add that I run my masks thru a solutions of Control III (once a month) for about an hour. This seems to get into the seals, the cracks and crevices which helps eliminate gunk build-up. Good for the tank and hoses too. It has a slight chemical smell afterwards, so I place a large bar of heavily scented Sandalwood soap next to the intake port of my machine for one night, then it's gone.

CPAP.com has Control III:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

That's what Ivory Pur is. No scent, no color, etc.

Just be sure nothing you use contains alcohol. It will degrade the silicone quickly. Many "wipes" have alcohol, but you can find brands that are alcohol-free.

Other than that, there's not much that will hurt silicone.

Barbicide or Hydracide from your local barber supply shop. Same active ingredient as Control III
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

OMG what is in that stuff?

To the OP: Just put the mask in the sink, pour in some baby shampoo (without conditioner), wash and place on a towel to dry. Daily.

This is what the manufacturers recommend. It shouldn't be that difficult to handle.

I've dishwashed my Swift FX and ComfortGel masks once a week or so for 8 years with no problems.

There's always boiling, but that's more of a monthly thing.
