Hello,
So I just moved to Houston last month for college. I bought the health insurance plan called AIG through University of Houston which is about $500/semester. I'm having trouble with sleeping at night and I'm going to get sleep study at Memorial Hermann hospital. The cost of the study is approx. $2500 and I called AIG who said my policy doesn't cover sleep study. So I think I should buy another better health insurance plan which covers sleep study so if anyone has any suggestion about good and affordable health insurance plan, please advise me. I'm so new to Houston and don't know a lot of people to ask about this. If anyone has any advise about good place to get sleep study (if there is any place better than Hermann hospital) please please let me know also. I do really appreciate all replies and thanks a lot.

If you are under age 26, you can get on your parents' plan and it probably would be for very little money.
Otherwise, you can probably do better through an exchange under the Affordable Care Act, assuming your income is low. However, I think (not sure, so check it out) that Texas is one of the states that refused to participate in the exchanges, so you have to use the federal exchange program and I'm not sure how to find it. You might try calling an insurance broker in the phone book, and they can point you in the right direction.

Did you get the student accident only coverage?
Can you now get a more comprehensive policy from the Exchange?

Curious, UH, Is it possible that if you did an overnight study with a recording Pulse Oximeter, which is not nearly as expensive, then you might qualify to have an overnight sleep study in a lab?
