Do you sleep sitting up? When I have a bad cold or asthma issues, I cannot breathe very well while lying down. So, I have a special firm contour type pillow with armrests (taller than the typical backrest pillows), and I sleep sitting up. It isn't as nice as lying down, but I can breathe, and that means I can sleep.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Hooray!

Someone mentioned white noise, which is helpful in my household. There are free white noise apps for smart phones, or SimplyNoise for $0.99 which is an awesome and (true to its name) simple app. SimplyNoise also has a website with free white noise generator. Old AM radios tuned to nothing may also do it
