Just Diagnosed - Sleep Study data.

Post by crazyd » Wed Oct 09, 2013 8:38 pm

Total newbie. So ok - Doctor says I need a machine. I am bummed, but I also need better sleep. There is some debate with my doc and the ent whether I would benefit from surgery - I got some over sized stuff in there. But thats another issue.

Can any of you experienced guys help summarize what the heck these test results below really mean? I Other then yep - you need a machine?

Sleep Continuity and Sleep Architecture
Total recording time (TRT) was 409 minutes, and total sleep time (TST) was
312 minutes, for a sleep efficiency of 76%. Total sleep time was decreased as
compared to expected limits. Sleep onset latency was decreased compared to
expected limits. Sleep was fragmented by arousals due to respiratory events,
arousals due to periodic limb movements and idiopathic arousals. The arousal
index was 36, which was significantly elevated. The amount of Stage 1 (light)
sleep was within expected limits. The amount of slow wave sleep was within
expected limits. The amount of REM sleep was increased. Latency to REM sleep
was decreased.

Respiratory Measures
Respiratory monitoring showed frequent obstructive apneas and hypopneas that
were more common with the patient in supine position. Intermittent moderate
snoring was observed during the study. The baseline AHI was 16. The REM AHI
was 40 and the supine AHI was 43. Sleep-disordered breathing resulted in mild
oxyhemoglobin desaturation, with a nadir of 93%. Cheyne-Stokes respiration
was not observed.

EKG
EKG demonstrated sinus rhythm throughout.

Periodic Limb Movements
Periodic limb movements occurred frequently but did not cause significant
sleep fragmentation. The periodic limb movement index was 10.2. The periodic
limb movement index with arousal was 3.1.

EEG
With the limited montage recorded, no EEG abnormalities were observed.
