If its just the mask.... most of us can tell you we have gone through several before we have found the "right" one. I went through twelve before I found the tap pap and I love it... it may not be for you but tell us what the problem is and lets try and fix it. I can give you a Innomed/Respcare hybrid if you want to try that, or I have a Wisp nasal mask I am not using. If its just the mask that's something we can easily help with, if its something else let us know and we can do some brain storming and get you back on track.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Yes, I noticed that with the Opus 360 mask when I tried it. It was real loud, too loud for me, lasted for a one night trial, and went back. Don't know if this is a recent manufacturing defect, given the popularity of the Opus 360, I was really surprised how loud it was.

I'd suggest that you try the Swift FX before you give up your therapy altogether. It is very popular as well, and for me it is a LOT quieter than the Opus 360. The only time I hear it is when it is blowing on the sheets next to my head, and all I have to do is move the sheets a little and it's quiet again.

Another thing that helps me is that I use those foam-style earplugs, which helps quite a bit with the noise situation. It took me a while to get used to them initially, but now that I've been using them for a while, it's great. Pretty much all I hear is just my own breathing, which is really kind of soothing, rhythmic and all. And they're very soft, so that I hardly know that I've got them in.

What I'm trying to say is that rather than quitting something that could really help your health, you might try some alternatives and see how they work for you. It isn't easy getting a good combination of gear that works okay for you, but in my opinion, it's worth putting some time and effort into that.

Take care.

Not sure if you know that masks degrade over time, and begin to leak. You need to regularly replace the seals, and in some cases the entire mask.

Have you replaced your seals recently?

Best of luck,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

What size mask (of any kind) do you think you need?

Ahhhhh... If you haven't gotten a new mask or seal since 2012, then yes, you need a new mask and/or seal. It no longer seals, and that's why you are having problems.

I HIGHLY recommend you go out to The Great Pillow Exchange thread and ask for the seals you need. There should be someone giving away the seals you need.

The hybrid is a medium mouth piece and nasal pillows, if you think you may like to give it a go I'll send it to you. I am in the same boat as you, I don't have any insurance that covers cpap or supplies at all. . I buy what I can and rely on members here to trade for what I need. Just pm me your name and address if you want this hybrid.

I'll add my voice to the ones encouraging you to hang in there and try other mask options before giving up on therapy entirely.

The key for me has always been the mask. Not just the right type and size of mask, but also keeping it in good condition. With the full-face mask I use, I wash my cushion several times a week, and that makes a big difference. All I do is run it under hot water like I'm washing my hands, with the cushion between them. A dab of baby shampoo or a low-odor liquid hand soap and about a minute of gentle scrubbing does the trick. Then I dry it thoroughly and it's ready to go. If I don't wash it regularly, oils from my skin gradually build up on the surface and the mask doesn't seal as well.

Another thing I've learned is that headgear doesn't last forever. Once it loses its stretch, wearing my mask is much more uncomfortable. I've never used the kind of mask you have, but I bet that having worn-out headgear that won't stretch would make any mask less comfortable. Headgear wears out so gradually that you might not notice it.

It sucks that your insurance doesn't cover supplies. It's smart of you to post here and ask around like you have. Maybe someone will also have an idea of how you might find access to supplies for free or cheap.

I'm pretty sure I still have a Small Resmed Quattro FullFace in good condition. PM me your mailing info if you're interested and I'll send it to you.

In Kingman Arizona the humidity is really low this time of year. Please use your humidifier and please get back to us on how things are going, humidification is a real comfort factor, i think you need that.

If it's you in the Avatar then Ortho Dentist could help with your overbite teeth and even use a mouth appliance instead of CPAP. Which would be easier on you.

Avi, the OP said he/she doesn't have the money for a new mask so how the heck is this person going to afford a dental appliance?

And commenting on someone's teeth is totally inappropriate.

If you are still using a nasal pillow, try placing a bit of nanolish around the nasal pillow each night. This will help prevent leaks. You can find it around the nursing (baby) section of the pharmacy.

Don't give up!! You are way to young to suffer the ill-effects of sleep apnea. The disease will beat you down until it kills you. We will help you thru your issues. Work each of them here. I went thru 6 masks until I found mine.
