Turn off ramping for M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
Turn off ramping for M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
Can anyone advise me on how to turn off ramping for my machine? It's an M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex. I feel I'm suffocating while ramping, I'd rather get blasted with full pressure right off the bat. Please help a brother out!
Thanks!

Above is the quick setup guide for getting to the clinical setup menu.
See if you can either turn ramp off or set it to zero minutes which turns it off.

Unfortunately, you cannot control ramping when in auto BiPAP mode, which is what my machine is set to. Bummer!

You can't turn it off? You should be able to. I can't imagine any of these machines forcing you to use the ramp.telly wrote:Unfortunately, you cannot control ramping when in auto BiPAP mode, which is what my machine is set to. Bummer!

Re: Turn off ramping for M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
Don't know what happened to my reply... Anyway, try turning the ramp down to the lowest possible setting, while in BiPap.
If that doesn't work for you, do a test and turn off the BiPap and just use it in Auto mode. I run my M Series Auto 10-20 with no ramp. I don't mind the exhalation pressure.
However, YOU might. There's a reason they gave you a BiPap. Test this out before you go to sleep. Like try it while reading or watching TV, and see how you feel about it.
Might be you really can get by without the reduced exhalation pressure. But I don't want you to die over my advice, either.
Good luck!

Re: Turn off ramping for M Series BIPAP Auto with Bi-Flex
I wondered about that ramp thing when I saw the mention of "Autoramp". Can you not at least change the starting pressure so you won't be suffocated or shorten the time frame for ramp?
BTW...I have the BiPap Auto in the PR S1 series and all that I have to do is set the minutes to 0 for ramp and that keeps ramp off.

No, I have not been able to figure it out yet. Bummer as ramping is 15 minutes now. Way too long...Pugsy wrote:I wondered about that ramp thing when I saw the mention of "Autoramp". Can you not at least change the starting pressure so you won't be suffocated or shorten the time frame for ramp?

Looking at the guide Pugsy linked to, it seems you should be able to go in to setup mode, find AutoRamp time, and adjust it. The quick guide doesn't specify the range but it seems 25 minutes is the MOST, so you can definitely make is smaller, perhaps as small as zero.
Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

I combed through all the settings and could not find AutoRamp time. I'll go over it carefully once more this evening.khauser wrote:Looking at the guide Pugsy linked to, it seems you should be able to go in to setup mode, find AutoRamp time, and adjust it. It's called Ramp time unless auto mode is on, then it is called AutoRamp time ...
These are under the clinician's menu, NOT the patient menu.

It's weird, I followed the directions to get into the right menu for AutoRamp time but that feature is not mentioned in the menu. Perhaps because my unit is a bit old? I got it in '07. I'll keep trying (sigh).
