OT Has anyone been able to use the Obamacare signup website?
I can get to the point where it is supposed to ask security questions but there are no questions to answer. Looks like Obama hired someone to do the website based on "donations" rather than competence.

I've been trying since morning to get on my state's site (connecticut) but it doesn't load. Either it's overloaded or my computer is a piece of garbage.

Could be because millions of people are trying to access it...remember that you have until Dec. 15 to get your insurance started by Jan. 1.

It's being overloaded -- the security question drop downs worked last night and early this morning, and now they are not loading. Supposedly over 1 million hits on the site since midnight.
A side door way to check is to go to each insurer's website and check prices starting in 2014 for your location. You do not actually have to use the main 'exchange,' website, you can sign up on each insurer's site. The main exchange site just makes everything a lot more convenient to compare each company's products side by side and sign up -- that is, when the site is actually working.....

http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/10/01/millions ... ing-sites/
The federal government’s site, Healthcare.gov, was slowed down by the volume of people and repeatedly flashed a “please wait” message.
President Obama acknowledged the delays Tuesday as he spoke from the Rose Garden.
“The reason is because more than 1 million people visited before 7 a.m.,” he said of the federal site. “That gives you the sense of how important this is to Americans around the country.”
He added that glitches in the law did not reinforce Republicans claim that the law should be repealed or delayed, even pointing to the tech problems of Apple’s popular iPhones as evidence that such issues are inevitable bumps along the road.
“Consider that just a couple of weeks ago, Apple rolled out a new mobile operating system, and within days, they found a glitch, so they fixed it,” he said. “I don’t remember anybody suggesting Apple should stop selling iPhones or iPads or threatening to shut down the company if they didn’t. That’s not how we do things in America.”

I suggest waiting a few weeks until the initial crush is over. You do have 10+ weeks to get signed up. 3-4 weeks now won't amount to a hill of beans and will likely lead to your getting signed up w/o major glitches.hyperlexis wrote:It's being overloaded -- the security question drop downs worked last night and early this morning, and now they are not loading. The insurance does take effect until 1/1/14 so there's no rush to get signed up.

Re: Has anyone been able to use the Obamacare signup website?
I can't believe Obama engineered the Government shutdown just so that this big Obamasplat could take place. If I was going to shut the Government down I would have at least made sure the website worked perfectly. Obama had, what over 3 years to set it up?

Re: OT Has anyone been able to use the Obamacare signup website?
The popularity of the new insurance is why the sites are overloaded.
Thousands of people have been eagerly waiting for affordable insurance.
It will be interesting to see who they remember on election day.

Good point, these failures should really please the anti-Obama and anti-Obamacare folks around here. And the Democrats are sure to abandon Obamacare now that it has utterly and completely failed!NateS wrote:I thought you were against Obamacare and wanted it delayed and repealed- now you are complaining because you couldn't sign up fast enough?deerhound wrote:I can get to the point where it is supposed to ask security questions but there are no questions to answer. Nope, Nate I'm not planning to sign up. I just want to check up on Dear Leaders health care takeover. So far my cost have gone up drastically since he took ownership. I suspect if I qualify, it will still cost me more, but for some reason I can't find out............NateS wrote:I thought you were against Obamacare and wanted it delayed and repealed- now you are complaining because you couldn't sign up fast enough?deerhound wrote:I can get to the point where it is supposed to ask security questions but there are no questions to answer. Oh you are interested alright.... you are wasting way too much time and energy trying to log on I'll bet if your premiums are lower you will be signed on in a heart beat Its very interesting to see how fast the people are clamoring to sign up and are clogging the web site...... many folks are very eager to sign up. It certainly looks like the American people are FOR the program, certainly not like you Deerhound

Even NOAA weather site is down. Gives a message saying due to federal government shutdown no sites are currently available. Looks like somebody forgot to pay the internet bill at the capital building.

Re: OT Has anyone been able to use the Obamacare signup website?
No, not yet. Still trying to get through to the main, federal website to view rates. I have been able to call the 800 number and talk to people, and sign up for rates to be sent to me to pick from (using the phone help line), but I still don't yet have an idea on actual plans/rates. I am actually about to walk over to a local community site to discus things with a 'navigator' who may have better access to available rates and plans in my area. I can understand the website problems due to the high demand and web traffic.
However one thing I am extremely upset about is that Blue Cross has now told me by email that they are canceling my existing private plan and I must pick a new plan by January. Their new plans (on the BCBS website), with similar benefits to my existing 80/20/500 plan, are all much more expensive. The ones that are cheaper, all have enormous deductibles. Like $3-6k. No matter how you slice it, I will still have to pay more, not less. Unless I simply stop seeing one of my doctors regularly, or using my DME so as not to have to go through the deductible. Or I will have to pay a lot more each month.
This will be a valid criticism and an example of grounds for some sort of reform. Certainly not an abandonment of the law but changes for its improvement. I do not see why my really good, affordable ($250+30 dental) plan should not be grandfathered in, like a cell phone plan. Were my plan old, pre-2010, it actually would be grandfathered under the law, even if it had much poorer benefits. This makes no sense whatsoever. An old, crappy health policy, pre-2010, that doesn't meet ACA standards can be grandfathered in, but any plan created and bought after 2010 can be axed. It makes no sense and smacks of basic profiteering by the insurance companies.
Because if the plans on the BCBS site are indicative of the other plans on the exchange, then I'm not going to be very happy. I am, frankly, concerned, that they are selling policies with $6,000 deductibles. Those are the really affordable ones. That's really outrageous, however. I thought such high deductibles were supposed to be a thing of the past. How could a person even use such a policy? Other just as catastrophic coverage and for the very few free preventive care benefits allowed. It's almost designed so no one would even want to use the policy. This is the insurance company lobby's fault pure and simple. They are the ones driving this. I can understand a $500 deductible, or even one or two thousand, but six thousand? I would love an HMO or super restrictive policy, with limited hospitals or doctors, before taking a policy like that. But there is no way to yet know, because the website is still down.
Sorry for the frustrated rant.... Maybe I should run for Congress to make things better.... LOL
