Tap Pap users?
Tap Pap users?
I am thinking the Tap Pap mask might be a really good switch for me (I currently use the Swift LT For Her nasal pillow mask) because I only have one ear and the darn mask is always slipping down on that side...but I do have a mouth guard for bruxism. I have two questions: 1) Is the bite guard for this mask soft or hard? 2) How often do you get a new bite guard?
Thanks,
Katie

Re: Tap Pap users?
The bite guard is hard to start with..then heated to soften it for molding and then once cooled it is hard again.
I don't know how long the guards will last. So far I am on my second mouth guard but only because the original guard was improved and I got the new and improved mouth guard. The Tap Pap was released originally first of March. I don't remember when the new mouth guard was released but I had been using the new one prior to the release because I was part of the trials of the new mouth guard before the release.
I am still using the first set of nasal pillows that I started with the first of March.
The mouth guard I can see it lasting for months and months.

Re: Tap Pap users?
There's actually a lot of threads on the Tap Pap floating around here. My third night was last night. I'm still getting used to the CPAP thing in general, but I've found the Tap Pap better (for me) then the Swift LT. Here's my experience so far.

Re: Tap Pap users?
I have been using the Tap Pap for 7 months now and am still using the original mouthpiece - I think there is a lot more life left in it yet. It still fits as snugly as when I did the first boil and fit (28th March) and I don't really notice it once it is in place for the night. Although it is hard when it is molded to the profile of your teeth and gums it actually feels quite comfortable - almost soft like. I have purchased the new style mouthpiece but haven't yet tried it (I still have to do a boil and fit), but it seems to be virtually the same as the old style, except for the area behind your front teeth.Ivan101 wrote:I am thinking the Tap Pap mask might be a really good switch for me (I currently use the Swift LT For Her nasal pillow mask) because I only have one ear and the darn mask is always slipping down on that side...but I do have a mouth guard for bruxism. Re: Tap Pap users?
The mouth guard part with easily deal with your bruxism and still provide good protection.
I'm also on my second, and like Pugsy, only to switch to the new one. This one will easily last as long as I want. I will probably replace it after 6-12 mos just to keep the cleanliness decent (because I'm not the best at cleaning).
I replace the cushions every 2-3 mos. I guess I don't have Pugsy's nose strength! Seriously, in my case, probably because of size and shape of nose, the cushions begin to leak if I don't replace them. They tend to lose elasticity with time and the outer edges can't seal unless I shove the mask up so hard it causes pain. I really don't like pain.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: Tap Pap users?
I was looking into that mask also. Currently I use the Breeze nasal system and was wondering if the pillows would fit the Tap Pap.
I also have a big problem with gritting my teeth at night, would that damage the mouthpiece?

Re: Tap Pap users?
I just have one question about the Tap Pap. How does it work for people who can't keep their mouths sealed at night?
I've tried nasal pillows, really like them, but my leakage chart on Sleepyhead is never flat; instead it's a series of large peaks in excess of the 24 L/m limit my machine can handle, and it goes like that most of the time I'm asleep.
Does clamping down on the mouthpiece prevent mouth leaks from happening?

Re: Tap Pap users?
I love my Tat Pap! It's the only mask I've used that doesn't leak no matter how much I flop around during the night. But I think it's fair to say that with any mask (nasal and/or nasal pillow) other than full-face, you're going to get mouth leaks (chipmunk cheeks ) above some level of pressure. If mouth leaks are an on-going problem for you, you may want to look into a "hybrid" mask. These are technically full-face masks but they employ nasal pillows. Very interesting solution. There are at least a couple on the market now: ResMed (I believe it's called Mirage Liberty) and another by InnoMed (not sure if it has a name other than "hybrid").markdh wrote:I just have one question about the Tap Pap. Re: Tap Pap users?
No, they are too big in diameter. I tried the Breeze nasal pillows just to check them out. They are too big for the holes.Bobshouse wrote:Currently I use the Breeze nasal system and was wondering if the pillows would fit the Tap Pap.
